The way you play!!!

Hi,

Wanted to know the efficient way to play high quality content on my hdd. Currently, i connect hdd to a laptop and then laptop to my avr using an hdmi. I don't want to spend more than 10k on a new better way to play my content. Is there any quality drop while i play from my hdd using hdmi? Are there better ways to do this? Nas? Media players?
Sorry if this question seem silly. Have recently moved to playing high quality content.
