Voltage converter

I was using my Xbox 360 with Maxine step down transformer with capacity of 30 to 50 VA. Couple of days back it got fried. I had been using this transformer for more than a year but not sure how this happened. Should I buy a new one with higher VA capacity or should I buy the power adapter suitable for our power condition which is available through amazon and ebay. Please advise.

Recently, my AVR got damaged with those plug-type converters even though it'd power rating matching with my AVR. Finally, I purchased "MAXINE" 1 kVA converter (auto type). Though people recommended to buy isolation type, the seller, Mr. Amit R Shah, told me it's not needed for Bangalore (though he sells isolation type one as well).
