1 vs 2 vs 4 subwoofers

I now have had all 3 configurations in my setup. I hope to show, through empirical evidence (measurements), what differences (if any) have come from each. There'll be subjective listening impressions as well.

In general though, a lot of the proof of the bass pudding is in the measurements. Stay tuned.

Single subwoofer: Dual opposed 15 inch drivers

Two subwoofers: First one + an identical (but passive) unit

Four subwoofers: Aforementioned two + two subwoofers with 12 inch drivers

Placement:

Dual opposed dual 15's along the front wall, with the dual 12's along the rear wall. Each sub at roughly 1/4 of the distance from the nearest side wall.

Seating:

About 16 feet from the front wall.

The additional pair of subs will be going up high on the rear walls, above the diffusers and close to the ceiling. Supports for those are currently under design/construction. Will post measurements after they've been integrated in their final position.

Sorry, not yet. Completion of theater has been delayed because of the lockdown.

HST, would I go back to 1/2 subwoofers in my room ever again, given my placement constraints? Not a chance. None whatsoever. For both movies and music.
