1st Projector buy Epson TW8200 & Online Purchase Dilemma @ Killer Price!

Thanks for that, just had a sneek peak at the wesbsite and it surely looks like a good knowledge base for someone like me. Will check out more details.

I purchased my Epson 8200 PJ about 9 months ago from MZ Audio located at Bandra, Mumbai. I got it for Rs. 2 Lacs. It is with warranty and is performing excellent. My Sony 52" LED TV is not working for few days now and we watch all the prog on 106" screen and with this PJ. Only non HD prog looks bad on big screen as poor quality is also magnified. I think currently there is no equivalent to Epson TW 8200 PJ in India.

Thank you for your sharing your experience. I have bought the PJ now and I am absolutely thrilled by the big screen experience at the comfort of my home. Only using the wall screen with matte white paint at the moment as my dealer suggested to use wall as screen for sometime, just so that I am sure about the size before buying it. As of this day, I have been using the projector for almost 4-5 days and have tried 140", 125" and 120" in the given order. The projector is mounted at a distance of 14 feet and it can do a max image projection of 140". I am using it on a daily basis and still not sure about the screen size, guess it will take it's own sweet time. I have been viewing blurays in 2.35 aspect ratio, as well TV content in both HD and SD at 1.78 ratio. Now I am beginning to realize how different the content is and there is no 1 way to go about the projector screen when considering the aspect ratio (if one wants to avoid the letterboxing or pillarboxing).

Just out of curiosity, is there a way to have a screen that adjusts the aspect ratio based on content? ;)

I too use Carl's screen and did a DIY 143" screen. Its very good quality and I bought it directly from US. Yes, I had to pay some duties in India, but still its really worth it if you can get hold of good carpenters and passion to do things yourself :).

Hi John, appreciate your input. Can I ask you at what distance do you normally sit from the screen? 143" seems a little too big in my room but it will obviously be different in your setup. My viewing distance is 14 feet roughly and I am currently using 120" I suppose (108" x 60" approx. WxH), scaled down from 140". Cheers.

Here are some pictures of my new setup. Please understand that these pictures would not depict the actual quality of the image I am seeing but would give you guys an idea. I am pretty happy with this purchase. :eek:hyeah:

Also, I have been switching between Dynamic, Living Room and Cinema modes on the projector just to see how it performs. Haven't tweaked with any other settings as I have been busy with other stuff. Frankly, on the wall screen, I like the Dynamic mode better. The installer, alas, was a new guy himself with an experience of just 2-3 projectors done before and told me that there is No calibration that he has heard of about projectors. My dealer's other installers weren't available on that day. I guess I would have to research about it and do it myself only, with your guys help of course. :D

Other pj users, please feel free to join in. :)

Did you buy it online?

No, no, I told my dealer about this price available on snapdeal and asked him to try to work it out for me. As he already knew me from my previous purchases and my friends' recommendations that I always give/pass onto him, he got back to me within a day and said yes he could do it. The billing date 31st March also helped I suppose ;)

So, this is with bill, tax paid and with proper warranty.

How is Epson6100 compared to 5200? Is the extra twenty eight thousand difference justified? Getting 6100 for one lac seven thousand & 5200 for seventy nine thousand.
Epson8200 very costly at onelac ninetyfive thousand :(

Hi fellow members

I will be shortly shifting to another bedroom (a rather old one ;) ) in my house as my current room has to undergo renovation. I expect this renovation to last for approximately 2 months. Now this secondary room measures 18.5' x 16.5' , 18.5' being the TV wall (where I wish to mount the screen). I have another thread in the forum going on at this time as well regarding purchase of a 5.1 satellite speaker system for my primary room. Here is the link:

http://www.hifivision.com/what-shou...-b-w-mt-50-vs-b-w-mt-60d-budget-3-4-lacs.html

Actually as you will read in the above thread, my primary (current) room is small for my B&W CM9 theater and hence, I had them speakers and all equipment packed up nicely in their original cartons about 3 weeks ago. Now in about a week's time, I will have to shift to this secondary room for sometime till renovation gets complete in my main room.

The Plan:

1. To have 5.1 satellite speaker in bedroom, after the renovation gets complete

2. To have B&W CM9 theater setup as it is with a PJ+Screen in the secondary room, even after I shift back to my main bedroom. Will be using that room as a HT room till I plan to construct my proper dedicated HT room.

3. Circumstances are such that my house has to go under renovation and some new construction and it will get complete by the end of next year, or maybe few months late.

(I hope I am beginning to make some sense now and you readers are have some idea of my intentions:))

Now, I have no experience with PJ's and screens and from past few weeks, I have been researching about that only. I have only demoed Epson TW6600 as my local dealer had that on demo only. I liked it but since budget is not a huge issue here, I thought maybe go all out and buy one of the most recommended projectors. Another major reason going for the 8200 instead of 6600 is this listing on Snapdeal.com :

http://www.snapdeal.com/product/epson-ehtw8200-home-theatre-projectors/1417732232#bcrumbLabelId:629

PJ retail price: 2.55 lakhs
Snapdeal price: 1.94 lakhs (1.98 lakhs but there's an offer going on for additional discount of Rs 4000 for purchases made over Rs 50,000)

Here are my issues:

1. The local dealers of course are discouraging me to purchase from Snapdeal saying that this would be a grey market product for sure.

2. Local dealers are offering the best price of 2.30 lakhs i.e. approximately 10% discount. I can push more but I doubt they will be able to match it.

3. The SD seller's listing states his seller name as "AUDIO ZONE". A quick google search couldn't validate any company/organisation by that name doing HT business in Mumbai.

4. I sent him a message asking about authenticity of the listing. He said he is the authorized distributor from Mumbai and I shouldn't worry about it.

5. Epson India's website states that any purchases made from Snapdeal, Amazon or Ebay would not carry any warranty. Here is the link:

http://www.epson.co.in/sites/epson_india/Epson_Disclaimer.pdf

6. When I shared point number 5 with the seller, he said we can proceed directly without Snapdeal.com

7. Had I not seen the price online, I would have settled with my dealer's best price that I could have been to negotiate and went ahead with the purchase. But since I did see it, the difference between dealer's price and SD's price is 36,000! This is a huge difference!

8. I want to have the warranty but I would really like to avail that discount but of course, not at the cost of Official Warranty.

- Now, if he is the same guy at snapdeal, why name a listing with different name such as Audio Zone?

- His seller score of 3.4/5 doesn't help much either.

- Anybody with any experience with this company? Please share your experience. I am looking to close this purchase soon after hearing your thoughts/advise. Thanks for reading this post, Good night.

In my opinion you should buy from an international site, as they are available with high value items. You can buy it from any US Projector screen sites as the US warranty is valid and would be much cheaper. One i suggest you is elietscreen.com as the brand name is famous and have wide range at affordable price.

Dynamic is the worst mode on the projector. In fact, Dynamic is generally the worst mode on all projectors & TVs. Try using the THX mode, which is the best calibrated mode for movies on this projector. But most certainly the Cinmea modes will proved you the best picture in a dark, light controlled environment. The Living Room mode is good if you wish to view the projector with ambient light. But most certainly avoid Dynamic mode like the plague.

PS: Apparently the THX mode is available only on the US model. So stick to the Cinema modes.
