Hello all,
First up, I'm quite a rookie with 'high end' audio. For the last 6 years or so I've been listening to all my music on my desktop via a set of Bose Companion 3's that are still going strong. However, I've always wanted to get my own set up to listen to all those cd's I've collected but never listened to because of damn mp3s. Now that I've got my own place, I've finally taken the first step and did a little bit of research online, and demoed the NAD D3020, which I eventually ended up buying (in Hong Kong). It was perfect in size for my hall (which is pretty small) and sounded great with the PSB AlphaB1's. I was told by the sales rep that the B1's are well paired for the D3020. I thought they were a little lacking in the low end though. Ive also demoed the Def Tech Pro Monitor 1000's with a Marantz which sounded fantastic.(Haven't paired them with the NAD though). Are there any other brands that I should be looking at? And would adding a small sub woofer to the PSB's help? The bass radiators on the PM 1000's gave it more punch.
Please note:
1) This will be used primarily for heavy metal/hard rock/blues music
2) I'd like to keep an upper limit of about 35K on my budget.
Thanks for any advice!

see the thread on the meet for the amphion 410.

try to see if the D3020 goes with it.

else PM denom and take the distri number and request for home audition. Which should be possible with some luck. That would mean that you will be able to hear the setup exactly as it will be in your home. Thats a great plus.

Much depends on the type of music mostly played by you. I think the 410 will be nice with the music you mention.

Ofcourse there are others like the Dali Mentor Menuet also..which may interest you but thats at a higher price point.

At 65K I think they're a little too much outside my budget.
I read up a little and found the following interesting:
Norge Nano/MD.75 - will be demoing them tomorrow. (Great price and good reviews)
Boston Acoustics M25
KEF C1/C3

Any opinions of the above would be appreciated. :)

please listen to the 410's. They will sound good for the music you describe.

Then take a call.

better to spend once and get it over with.

ofcourse your call and YMMV..

For excellent sound that won't break the bank, the 5 Star Award Winning Wharfedale Diamond 12.1 Bookshelf Speakers is the one to consider!
