4k projector

Sony VPL-VW1000ES Rs 13 Lacs only :) ... Another option is SIM2 CinemaQuattro or Christie CP4220... Should cost in the range of 1-1.5 Crs... There are obviously other options but these 3 stand out at the moment with Sony in the VFM category & Sim2 & Christie in the best of the best Category... After you buy pls do post pics :) ...

Projector will be the cheapest part of this exercise. The cost of content will be higher - licensing original digitized movies from Hollywood distributors :-).

I think anm you will be correct. My Sim2 projector which was state of the art five years ago is still a great projector with terrific picture quality - but the value of it from US$25K is probably no more than $6.5k nowadays. And you can buy a projector with better specs (perhaps not much better picture quality than the 3-chip DLP) for that amount. So I can see 4K going the same way as well.....but patience is a very difficult virtue...and by that time so much time would have gone by so what's the fun!

My thoughts exactly. I purchased my AE700E (720p) in 2005. At that time:

- the HD format war had just about started or was yet to start
- 1080p projectors were USD 5K-6K
- there were hardly any HD players available (HD-DVD or BD)
- there was no content
- HDMI was still at v1.2

I decided that I will stick to 720p (GBP 1044). It was state-of-the-art at that time and ranked no. 1 on projectorcentral.com. My projector is still a very good (if not brilliant) projector. I sometimes feel that now I should upgrade but I always let common sense prevail (at least in this matter). :)

If you buy a 4k projector, it will be used only for Bluray. There is no distribution media suitable for 4 k which has been standardized. It will take 1-2 years to be widely available. Till then save the bucks.

Hmm I am pretty sure JVC's projector is not true 4K but rather kind of 4K ready... They are just plastering the 4K tag on their projector...
@roseboy24 Lolz

Yes, 4K e-shift is not really a 4K projector. It does not accept any 4k input, nor does it have 4K pixels to display. It just shakes the regular HD pixels, if that helps.

By the way, we all have 4K still content, that is, any picture with 8.3 Mega pixels or more. I would love to see them on a 4k display. Unfortunately even that is easier said than done. Even most of the 4K TVs can't take these pictures from their USB ports and display them in their original glory.

All of us with 100+ inch screens would surely benefit from upgrading to a 4K projector, but the manufactures plan on making big money from the people who can pay, before they let us buy these devices :(

JVC has launched the new range of Projectors for this year which can now accept 4K/60Hz input too. and the price point is 5.35L for X700.

JVC does not have a native 4k projector. They shift the pixel diagonally and show the 4k. Its two x 2k alternating images. They call it e-shift and is gimmicky. People say it makes the picture look soft and turn it off.

Sony has the 1000/1100 and 500/600 models and the newly announced short throw laser projector linked above. These are the only "lower" priced units. Rest are lot of money. Sony also has a 4k server player which can download 4k movies and show it natively on these projectors.

I suggest that you wait till 4k becomes mainstream and such projectors become cheaper. Today these pj's won't bring any advantage.
