5k Elcheapo for fren

Friend needs a ok system to plug USB drive and have a el-cheapo audio nirvana .
He is strong believer of not spending with audio unless he buys his house ?

We are limited here with USB based cheap 2.1s and 5.1s problem is the playback quality is horrible [Fnd , Philips etc ]
Buying DVDp with USB dont change the game as 1.5k goes and remaining money he dont get decent speaker [read sony ,philips]
Moreover he is not willing to grab 1 more dvdplayer,as old dvd player w/o USB option is there .

Suggestions?

why not portable media player with good head or earphones?
Among the 2.1 i think Edifier is the brand worth considering.

I would buy edifier, put all my songs onto the mobile handset and use it as a source. It would be better option than going for cheap built in decoder of some 2.1 system.

Things are so twisted for this one case .
One possibility :
China ipodshuffle =100Rs,some are[enter,Zippys etc] real cool ,with audio Q u can survive . .all by default takes MIcro Sd.
