Guys,

We recently had our Panasonic 65" TV fail. Now we in the market for a replacement.

What are the choices?

Our TV feeds a AV receiver and some speakers (I think I have an old thread about this system from 2012) so the sound of the TV is irrelevant.

We don't need 4K (there is little content) and we don't need 3D either and we definitely do NOT want a curved panel. We don't need Android either as we are an iPhone/iPad family.

What we want is a company that will give us good service.

So far this is what we found
MRP Rs 384,900
KD-65X9000C : X90 Series - 4K TV : BRAVIA LED TV / LCD TV / HD TV / 4K TV : Sony India
and
MRP Rs 404,900
KD-65X9300C : X93 Series - 4K TV : BRAVIA LED TV / LCD TV / HD TV / 4K TV : Sony India (don't like it because of those speakers on the side).

MRP Rs. 251,900/-
Samsung LED TV 65inch Price India, Latest TV 3D Full HD Specs
MRP Rs. 314,900/-
Samsung UHD TV 60Inch Price, 4K Flat HD Smart TV J6470 Price, Specs, Features
MRP Rs. 383,500/-
UHD TV 65 Inch HU8500 Price, 3D Ultra High Definition*TV, Features, Specs Samsung India

What are the differences? Any other brand other than Samsung or Sony that offers a good product? LG?

I suggest you find a 4k model that does at least 90% of rec2020 and supports that gamut natively. They should also be capable of 4:2:0 12 bit input via HDMI 2.0. Most of the 4k TVs found in are still rec 709 and not very future proof as real UHD content is supposed to have a wider color gamut.

I just had a look and none of the TVs appear to support rec2020. I'd wait till those appear in the market. Samsung has the JS9500 series. Not sure what the corresponding sony is.

Here's the review of the JS9500

The price of 64" tv's in India is obnoxious and ridiculous for no competent reason.

Thanks guys,

Well we have an existing Panasonic 65" that has failed and Panasonic has settled with us. We agreed to taking "cash" at the depreciated amount calculated as per section 32 of the Income Tax Act.

So when Panasonic does show with their demand draft we will have to surrender the existing TV which is built to accommodate 65"-80" screens nothing smaller (we tried a 60" and it looked small in the space).

Hence I need to decide on a TV soon (this week or so). The JS9500 is a curved model. We need to get a flat screen as the curved model will look odd.

I agree though, 65" TVs are really expensive. We are paying more now than we paid in 2012 for the existing Panasonic. Talking of Panasonic you can buy a 60" for Rs. 1.15L. And 65" then jumps to 3L+?

@Navin - Why not the 64F8500 Plasma if it is available in your location ? That is under two lakhs and give you all that you need with exceptional picture quality too. Buy additional extended warranty for peace of mind.

I don't even know where to get this? Neither Vijay Sales nor Croma has it. I live in Mumbai (South) is there a place one can get this. I refer brick and mortar stores so you have some one to go to for service.

BTW the same thing happened to my Panasonic Plasma as has happened to alljunkie (post 694) in the link below. Is this common with Plasmas?

Issues can come in any TV. If it is with Original Bill and warranty, just take the plunge eyes closed. You will surely thank me for it. Don't forget extended warranty.

Thanks, I have posted on that thread?

Just a question. Is the warranty from invoice date or install date?

From the date of Invoice or billing date. Evolution kit is an upgrade feature for future expansion in terms of processing power and features upgrade/codec support and it doesn't come pre installed in the Tvs and you don't need one in 8500 Plasma.

You didn't ask this, but saying for the sake of others...

Evolution kit cannot make a Full HD TV in to a 4K Tv too. ie. HD/4K are physical properties of the TV.:p
