This post is a little late. Have been wanting to post this for sometime but something or the other just came in the way. Anyway....
Something about stereo is fascinating and enticing as many of you can vouch here. Wanting to find the right pair had been my major goal since 2011 when I first began the hunt for the right speakers for stereo.
During this time I picked up a pair of Klipsch reference and KEF's. However, by then I had demoed the Harbeths at Absolute Phase. So although the klipsch and KEFs were doing their job well there was something about the Harbeth that was so good that I kept going back to Absolute Phase to simply listen to them. In this regard Prithvi, the owner of Absolute Phase, was fantastic. He was always patient with me and answered my innumerable questions on various pricing issues and other technicalities. In the process also began a good friendship. He is a guy with passion for the work he does and knows his stuff. Only thing about the Harbeth was that the prices were steep. But nevertheless I dreamt of owning a pair.
Well, this year I made this dream come true. I picked up the 35th Anniversary edition of SHL5 and boy oh boy are these speakers special. Miles Davis is playing on the Harbeths as I write this and it is heavenly bliss. There is something about the Harbeth Speakers that I could not find in any other till date. I have demoed and heard various brands but none came close to Harbeths.
Although I have to make a mention of two sets of speakers that I did love and both were DIY projects. One are the fabulous sounding speakers (Altec lansing) that Santhosh, who is known on this forum has built. The other being Klipsch (some vintage) redone and remade completely from scratch by Bijoy of Analog audio (Cochin).
Anyway, I still cannot believe that Harbeth speakers are in my lounge. It will take some time for this to sink in. All I can say is WOW. Thanks Prithvi for everything.
P.S: My Klipsch and KEF Q300 are for sale
