Acoustic Research Speaker Wires

Though AR is very good, the products you have mentioned are entry level. I use AR ICs and some have used some speakers cables.

For these prices you can get much better cables from other brands.

Cheers

Not inexpensive is my first thought. My second is that one doesnt really need to buy esoteric speaker wire, I use stranded copper wire and it works fine.

Thanks Venkat,

Can you tell me which cables will be better than these in same price?

How much does the stranded copper wire cost? Is it the regular copper wire that your talking about? some pics would be handy, thanks.

At 100-150 a meter, one of the best speaker cable I have come across is Belden. You can also try brands such as Eagle, Liberty, QED, etc.

Cheers

Yes regular copper wire-I happened to buy this from Home Depot in the US-16AWG. I see no reason why our better brands like Finolex wont do the trick-anyone here with any experience?

Thanks George, yes, have also wondered whats the fuss with the 'audiophile' wires biz! I am going to start this experiment with the Solidaire SS-70 Speakers that are lying with me, going to try lots of experiments with them, as they need new wires/drivers/stuffing...:D will pester you & the DIY Guruji's with lots of questions too! :)

Denom:

In my view audiophile wires are to audiophool people.

In a way I look at these things like the newer models of golf clubs which tom tom attributes like the "forgiveness factor " at a significantly higher price point than the older model. At the end of the day the new model isnt going to improve your game, but your wallet will be significantly lighter!

In the end, to each his own.

Actually, cable does affect sound in a perceptible way.

And yes, newer golf clubs do have better forgiveness factor. I started with an old Wilson set, then graduated to Dunlop set but biggest "forgiveness factor" was achieved by upgrading my Driver with Taylormade Burner.:)

Well, to start with I assumed cable is all about material, size (dia) and length.

I have seen cables marked with signal direction. I have also seen braided cables claiming that they are better. And have read about use of golden ratio for cable construction by Cardas.

All of these sell, and am convinced that it is not just the hype (although pricing seems to be based majorly on hype only). I have heard the Kimber Kable braided 8PR and Norstone multistrand (of equivalent dia) in a local audition and did notice a better soundstage with 8PR.

Rajesh

You are rich. I upgrasded from an ordinary Jack Nicklaus Golden Bear set, in stages, initially bought a used Titleist 983K, which definitely help increasing the distance of my tee shots, and then in stages bought other clubs( all preowned and affordably prices)

My personal opinion is to upgrade interconnects, not speaker wires. But hey, at the end of the day each of us has their own options at different price points, and we make our choices accordingly.
Good luck with whatever you choose
