Hi all.
Just learned about Arduino, seems interesting stuff for DIY.
Has anyone used it for interfacing with AV equipment. Pl share your experiences. I am planning to order one.

Arduino - Introduction

Arduino is cool. very flexible, user friendly and so much code
available out there.
Lots of possibilities. Check out Lady Ada's site too for her stuff with it.

On diyaudio, in the Analog Line forum, there are a couple
of Arduino projects - mostly preamp stuff to control
input relay selection, motorized or digital volume control,
LCD display, IR remote and so on.

Apparently, Arduino boards are available in Delhi. Didn't find
them in Hyd, but I haven't looked too hard for it.

There are lots of online sites in India which have Arduino boards .Most of these deal with robotic kits . Here are a few

Probots - India's Electronics and Robotics Superstore
eXtreme Electronics
Robokits India, Easy to Use, Versatile Robotics Kits...

Interestingly, I'm currently working on a very similar project. I got an input selector kit from ebay Hk for ~ 13 USD. I'm building an LDR based Vol control (motorized) + input selector interfacing with a remote control . I'm building this around an 8051 microcontroller ...(P89v51RD2) ...

On the efymag's sister site, there is a kit for doing this ..

Nice project, and nice controller. Appears to use a nice, simple
TTL serial port for programming, so even a mobile phone USB data cable
should do. Have you tried it with linux - prog8051?
Is the 89v51RD2 available in Hyd and how much?

I have used ATMega8 for a few little things and it is nice and
cheap (used to be ~Rs 45, but
has gone up a bit now) and works great with a simple USBAsp programmer.
USBAsp works fine with avrdude on linux.

Also, where did you get the input selector for $13?!!

I'm using Keil uvision for programming.

It should be available in koti -- gujarati galli ..I had gone there to purchase but they had big costly boards ..I needed a cheaper one .So I bought online from probokits site I gave above ....Thats run by some guy from bangalore ...I got the devp board, processor, LCD ,a motor and a motor controller ...all from him ..nice guy ..nice prices ..

I got the input selector kit from ebay HK ..
stereo audio channel input selector board kit ! | eBay
This what I bought ...I combined it with a VU meter driver that I purchased from that seller...

Right now, I'm stuck trying to code IR receiver part into the 8051 ...

No issues quad. I started this thread to learn and use the learnings in experimenting with arduino.
