Audio Myths Workshop Vid

Too much sacrilege in this video for here! ;) I love the tone of voice in which he talks about power cords

Of course, no one is obliged to agree with everything he says, but there is so much good stuff in his writings etc that it would be a shame to dismiss it because of a detail here or there.

This is a great video and explains about why we hear differences when we change interconnects , Even Power Cables.

I have tested their theory at home and there is a clear difference in what
I hear when I move even a few inches left or right.

Well that does not mean that we don't have to pay tens of thousands of dollars for a
power cable if we get the bragging rights.
Most of what we do are for bragging rights , its not for quality , its not for our satisfaction (may be a little) , but its mainly so that we can brag about them.
It also has an immense exclusivity and snob value, all humans crave exclusivity.

Why else would people pay hundreds of dollars for salted fish eggs and
mushrooms that only pigs and dogs can find or expensive watches or cars or
I-Junk .

So although theory is very good, like how a cheap Casio can keep the time just
as well as a gold Rolex, it does not detract from the fact that owing a Rolex
is not the same as owning (er ... having) a Casio.

This taught me how to get the best out of a concert hall. if a move of an inch or two can make a difference to the sound, what about a chair or two! Yes! It can change unbearable to bearable! Still can't claim to understand "comb filters," though.

Then I theorized that component differences should be assessed using headphones only (pretty hard for speaker cables!) and guess where that led me? To realising that a small change of headphone position can make a big difference to the sound. It's all good: helped me to get more out of my headphones :)

I think these two are entirely different things. Technically I can't explain it using wave theories but listening to original and simulating the original is different.
Comb filters still applies to concert hall but, unlike stereo, that the sources of wave are more than two. The imaging is not created but it is there itself. Using 2 speakers to create that effect is complex and hence limited to small area(listening position). I might be entirely wrong but that's what I think :)

Certainly possible that I got the wrong idea --- but put it to good use! Sometimes one can beat something, even with the wrong end of a stick.

Generally, in most of the halls (they wouldn't begin to qualify as auditoriums) I visit, one has to look to the placement of the PA speakers; unless one is in the front row, there is almost no direct sound from the multi-point-occupying performers. Otherwise,
listening to original and simulating the original is different.
Yes, I agree. When we listen to stereo sound from our speakers, we are listening to an illusion.

Will revisit the subject and try to learn some more...
