Hi
We often jump straight to diffusers, bass traps, and absorbers when trying to improve room acoustics. But in most cases, a significant improvement can be achieved simply by working with what’s already in the room: furniture, cabinets, drapes, soft furnishings, equipment racks, even reflective surfaces. These elements are already shaping the sound. Moving and repositioning them can change the way energy is absorbed, reflected, and diffused in the room, often more than we expect.
Once you understand how your room behaves, then consider adding dedicated acoustic treatment. And even then, in small, deliberate steps. It’s very easy to remove energy from a room, but much harder to put it back. In my experience, great equipment in an overtreated room is one of the quickest ways to lose the life in the music.
