Guys, Whats your opinion on the B&W 683 and what's the best deal available for the speaker??

well you have selected a great pair of speakers.
i remember researching them when i was building up my system.
you might not find too many people offering their reviews/views about your selection on HFV.
I ended up buying the Klipsches because I liked them too much and could not get to audition B&Wes.

This comes to my mind immediately Roksan Kandy, Arcam!!
BTW, what's your budget!! For the great speakers, as venkatcr mentioned high class amp's are really good.

No way. As Sgmane mentioned, you have move up the ladder and look at Rotel, Roksan Kandy, Parasound, Arcam, and the likes. B&W speakers are not easy to drives and will sound pathetic if they married to the wrong amplifier.

Rotel amps are a best match for B&W speakers.. You can consider the Rotel-RA-06 amp for sale by musicmaya in this forum.
Last i know it was around 80K a pair, retailed at hyderabad

In Hyderabad, sadly speakers are kinda expensive..even wharfedales 10.1@Vector Systems are retailing at 15K without negotiation.:indifferent14:

Until recently i had a old valve radio which produced awesome sound especially on the bass side. which would be still a good match for the newer generation table top high end stuf..
so my point is i am not really sure if that thumb rule is valid on all of the stuff, i hear even now people going ga ga over the 683's... and high end stereo amps based on valve tubes.
KVN - no doubt hyd has lower choices than mum/del/chn but i have bought most of my stuff in vector at one of the best prices, i know them well,
if you need anything propbly we could try... i would rate vector as one of the best in hyd i have seen. (reliability + Price) but not on options.
Well made high quality electronics lasts decades without any noticeable quality degradation. So there is nothing wrong with continuing to use old stuff.
One should remember several non technical factors when comparing old products with new products - inflation causes same price point to lower quality products, change of perception may cause some product lines to be shelved (a lot of companies completely stopped making valve based electronics in the 90s, although there was nothing inherently wrong with them), what are considered good looks may not be considered the same a decade later.
Companies revise their product lines with additions (supposedly without any degradation of old quality) through design innovations, implementation techniques, new interfaces, etc.. Which is why I believe it makes more sense to buy a companies new line of products.
