I am considering buying the B&W 803d's and I already have an Onkyo NR 603. Do you guys think that this can work together.

The speakers will swallow that receiver and won't even burp.

The onkyo is nowhere near the class to drive the 803d.

What is your budget? Are you looking for a stereo?

TWO BIG thumps to this

I wanna add more BUT its nasty stuff so will refrain ;)

25 yrs back when John Bowers launched the Matrix 801 / 802, a lot of ppl tried to pair 'em with receivers. Most got a poor quality sound & blamed the speakers. Its exactly this sort of an act that gives superior products a 'bad name'

am a neub .. but I actually know about this situation as I have witnessed the end result :D so... like the gurus have said....and adding my expression.... NNNNNNNNNoooooooooooooo!! (Echooing fade)

Guess the op has got the idea.. its a complete no-no match.

OP: the 803d is a top of the line speaker, and needs top of the line components along the entire chain starting from source to perform at its level. Being extremely revealing, these speakers can expose a sub par component so badly you will wonder why it's sounding so bad. But its not the speaker that's underperforming, but the supply chain.

Onkyo is no way a top class amplifier. Classe, pass labs, jeff rowland these are top class amplifiers, the level this speaker needs. At least 150 watts into 8 ohms with a minimum of 15-20 amps of current.

I had once heard a low end b&w with a mid end onkyo stereo receiver. I couldn't stand it for more than 2-3 mins max.

So you get now, what got us guys so stirred.

Since you're in Amsterdam, go over to Hobo HiFi or Raf and see the Bowers & Wilkins 803 Diamond-II that sells in those 2 stores for 4,500 EACH; meaning a Pair is 9,000

Now - ask them what sort of an amplifier would they pair with these ?

They'll show you things that are in the scale of 7,000 to 12,000

A beautiful, well-constructed speaker with class-leading soundstage, imaging and bass that is fast, deep, and precise.
