I shall be visiting Singapore next month. I am looking to add a pair of small bookshelf from the following:

1. Quad 11L
2. Dali ikon 1
3. Polk RTI A1
4. PSB

Request forum members to suggest how these are priced at singapore compare to India? What are the other expected overheads?

thanks

Which particular amp would you pair with the speaker ?

if you are visitng singapore the most value for money speaker would be Quad and the Dalis

in my visits and converstation with local singapore dealers i have experinced that these have larger price differnces when compared to indian markets

however obvioulsly that should not be buying criterion
Buy what you like hearing . period.

you will get quads chepaest at Sim Lim square
Higher end hifi is availble at adelphi

To add to this, the last time i checked when i was hunting, 685s & RX1s were around 900, BX1s around 550. Not sure if these are better than there. Dynaudios, for sure get better than UK prices here.

from the brands mentioned above i'm not sure. The Dali Lektor 2s were around 650. PSB alpha b1s around 350-400, if memory serves me right. except a few brands, most are available at adelphi/sim-lim

I shall be pairing them either with Yamaha Rx-V863 or Marantz PM7001. I like neutral sound (slightly on brighter side with good midrange). I am also looking to add a centre channel speaker of the same family and I will not like to go beyond Rs.30k in total.

sandy
personally i dont like the marantz and quad combo(i find it bright though there are others who like it )
however in singapore its not difficult to hear this combo
so if you like it buy it

i would rather pair a PSB with a marantz or a Quad with a NAD or an Audiolab
all these brands are availble in singapore easily

in 30k i doubt if you will get 2 fronts AND a centre speaker of the above mentioned brands
you would probably get only the fronts

if you want everything in 30k look at PSB image series B6 bookshleves and the matching centre ( though i still think youll hit 35k)
alternativley you can try the discontinued Quad stuff ( sometimes these are avaible at real bargains)

Dalis can be heard at adelphi with much higher end amps though
i really like the Exposure amp at Adelphi if you get a chance to listen

I believe your shortlist is good for midrange. Dali's and quads, i heard are good in midrange. But then others here might be able to recommend more options.

For INR 30k, you have quite a few options around here. Like the other bro mentioned, your options might reduce if you've to include a center speaker. More importantly, most place also do marantz, so it'll be easier for you to match.

BTW, You get even better pricing for electronics here. Esp. Marantz. e.g. The 7003 use to retail <500. So incase you haven't already bought you might want to consider :). Id seen an older model Roksan Kandy power amp retailing for around 600, a demo unit.

If you can, try to listen to an Epos M12i, it blows away everything in under 70k. A friend of mine chose it over Quad 12L, Proac Tablette and Dynaudio Audience 52SE.
In India this speaker is priced at 40k, so you might get it a lot cheaper at Spore.

Thanks will surely try Epos..

If someone can throw more information about availability of good & budget bookshelfs in SG.....

you may also try your luck at Audio house at Clark Quay. They have some great offers at time, at sim lim there are chances although very slim of you getting ripped off, grey market stuff etc, happened to one of my friends.

What other bookshelf should I look for in SG? I want to pair it with marantz amp. and they should have good midrange and tight bass.

Comments please...

@sand64
Mordaunt-Short Mezzo 2 when paired with my Nad 356bee amp have crispy sparkling highs and tight punchy bass with good midrange. The sparkling highs and punchy bass is missing even in my Grado SR80i headphones (may be I need to try with a dedicated headphone amp to get the performance close to Nad + M-S).
They should be a good match to the forward/bright sounding marantz amp as they have prominent bass. Even marantz recommends using M-S speakers.

They are available for 20k INR (including 20% VAT) in UK. You should get it at almost same price there in Singapore.

If that combo is sounding bright with out enough bass then look for speakers with neutral to warmer sound signature like the Dynaudio's. Try Dynaudio Excite 12 and DM 2/7.
I heard Dynaudio the Excite and DM series don't require powerful amp.

Thanks ravi,
Many forum members have voted in favour of marantz & MS mezzo combination, though I did'nt get the opartunity to audition them. I shall surely look for them. How is Mezzo-1 ? I slall prefer them being small in size..

What are the retail price of Mezzo-1 & 2 in India?

@sand64
Mezzo 1 has a small mid/bass woofer with is 5.25" with rear bass port where as Mezzo 2 has a 6.5" large woofer with front bass port. Both have same tweeter.
Because of the small woofer on mezzo 1 the bass may not be as punchy as the mezzo 2.
The cabinet size difference is not much between both. The mezzo 2 is 5 cm taller, 1.6 cm wider and 2.5cm deeper than mezzo 1.

I have no idea of the Mezzo price in India but the Aviano-2 I heard was about 20k - 22k INR in India. No idea if the Mezzo's and Aviano's are getting discontinued but were sold in UK for very low prices about 15k INR for Mezzo 1 and 20k INR for Mezzo 2. Singapore prices should be similar or lower than UK.

The Aviano's has the same woofer as Mezzo's but with a different tweeters and cabinets. The Mezzo's tweeter has more sparkle.

I remember seeing a pair of Quads at City Elec. in Sim lim sq. cant recall exact model..it was probably 11L2 (or 11L1), was quoted around 899.

PSB is available at Alpha Audio the very next shop to City Electronics, did not check the Image B6, but Alpha B1 was around 350. Not sure if you'll be able to figure out the price by comparing the models' india prices.
