Hi,
I have decided to buy Onkyo 608 Amp and the Onkyo dealer here in Kol has quoted me around 49K for the Amp. So I am now looking for speakers in around another 20K. The onkyo dealer here sells Jamo and Elac and was suggesting me Jamo A102 or some 5 spk combination of Elac. I require help on deciding.

Shall I go for a 5 pair satellite for the time being at lesser prices without sub woofer for the time being and later on add two good fronts and sub and shift the two existing sats to center surround since my Amp is 7.1? I such case I want more suggestions. I am open to purchasing speakers from shoyourworld or ebay global easybuy but they have to match my Amp's power ratings which I think the onkyo kol dealer is not trying to understand and suggesting combinations that have lower RMS than my Amp. Please suggest

TX-SR608 is costing around 42k in chennai. Negotiate further and press for a confirm deal.

Regarding speakers(Elac) Don't prefer seperate buy, Look for combo. You'll get a better deal for Amp and Elac F57 series. Might have to stretch your budget a bit.

If i were you, I would definitely, look for combo offer since Onkyo is the authorized distributor of Elac in india and they provide best combo price.

The reason for my suggestion is, F57 series has pair of Floorstand speakers, 1 Centre, 2surround and 1 Sub which gives you a complete 5.1 package and no lateral upgrade or addition is necessary. For movies, 5.1 should be fine to start with.

Even before you consider them, listen to those speakers first and compare the performance with respect to Jamo A102 and move accordingly.

Firstly 608 is an AVR and 49 k is toomuch for it... You can get it for 39k or 41k to the max with B&W... Coming to the question of Sat&Sub its up to you if you have limited budget and no epansions in future go for a 5.1 package or if you think you can upgrade step by step.. First add the fronts, center and sub later go for rears.... Do not buy a underpowered 5.1 package as 608 has potential to drive bigger and better ones...

Hi Haisaikat,
I bought a 608 for my personal use. something has come up and i have postponed my 5.1 set up idea for now. I am willing to sell it. I am in Bangalore. Contact me if you are interested. Its brand new in the box!

Hi Kittu,
That was what I posted earlier, since my budget is limited so I am planning to buy sats for the time being which would only be 5 speaker. later on I plan to buy good fronts and push the two existing fronts to center surround and also add sub. Any suggestion for recommended models in this step by step upgrade would be appreciable.

saikat,

Coming to the AVR price try source it from abroad even with customs it would come under 28k...

Sat package depends on what is your later upgrade as fronts... I prefer most of them to be of same family...

So go for something like Paradigm cinema 70/90 package as your budget permits. Or you can consider Energy take classic / polk rms too .... But audition the speakers before you buy...

I am checking ebay GEB and SYW for AVR optrions but because of lower warranty options am a bit concerned.

Regarding demo, this saturday I plan to visit the onkyo dealer once again for a demo of SR608 + Elac Starlet 5 speaker package (no sub for budget) and will post my feedback after that. I saw on GEB that Jamo S426 is there for INR 25K all inclusive. And our onkyo kolkata dealer is quoting me around 25-26K for the Elac Starlet 5 speaker package

I have heard Onkyo paired with Energy speakers.. It sounded very good ... Please do post your review after you listen to Elac starlets... Does it come with Sub ... Sats are no good without a sub....

They are not with subs. But seems I cannot afford a sub at this point. Have to settle with the 4 sats and 1 center for now without sub. Later on I may buy a better active sub when budget permits and probably go for better fronts and push the existing fronts to center surround.

Definitive Pro Cinema 1000 would be a good match! Check if your Onkyo Dealer has them.
Jamo used to make good speakers, not anymore in the budjet category. Jamo A340 satellite speaker package is pretty good. Not very expensive.

Hi Sunil,
F57 is not available with the kol onkyo dealer. He has starlet 5 speaker sat package for around 27K. Plan to audition them this saturday. Also I am parallelly checking options for buying the speaker packsage from ebay GEB or SYW. Jamo S426 5 speaker or Fluance 5 speaker is available in around 25-26K all inclusive

Definitive Pro Cinema 1000 is being sold for GEB at around 1.12 lacs :(

The onkyo dealer has Jamo A102 package, I also have plans to demo them this weekend.
