Hi everyone
I am a novice when it comes to AV systems. Is there a link or a guide that will help me plan for the wiring/cabling my new apartment?
Right now interior work esp. false ceiling is going on in my apt. So I want to get as much cabling as possible done to future-proof the home. I went thru a few links on this site but the acronyms totally confused me.
My builder has provided the basic connection points: Cable TV, phone and Internet points in Drawing Room and 2 of the 3 bedrooms.
Based on my limited knowledge, this is what I have come up with: 5.1 Home theater speaker cabling in the drawing room. (Considering the size of the room I can put at max. at 40" TV although 32-36" would be ideal. With this I will have the usual input sources like DTH/cable TV, DVD/Blue Ray). What kind of speaker cables do I need to buy? Are there different types for front, rear and center speakers and sub, or can I use same cable for all 6 points? The TV and cable points are adjacent to each other but the Internet point is on the opposite wall. Is this OK if I want to use IPTV in the future?
I intend to have a wireless router somewhere in the middle of the apartment. I trust this will take care of browsing, live streaming, etc.
I would like to know what other cabling needs I will need in the short term. And what I would need in the long term considering the tech. advancements? E.g.
I have read about HDMI cables. Will I need this anywhere?
If I want to use the same DTH/cable TV source to watch different programs in different rooms, what do I need to do?
Any cabling needed to hook gaming devices?
Is it a good idea to lay empty pipes under the false ceiling for any future use? I want to avoid unnecessary cost though.
I have a huge dining area where one of the walls is going to be just plain blank. I can use a projector there if needed in the future. What kind of wiring is needed for this?
Please help.
Thanks.
