Hi,
I have a Ritz Zxi top end model fully loaded. It came with pre-installed Music system with a single MP3 CD player... and 4 speakers in all the 4 doors. Not sure of they are 6" or 8"... although the bass is apt in them.. I am wondering if there is a decent sub which will help boost the bass?

I detest the BOOM BOOM heavy sound from the systems installed in some cars. I would prefer nice crisp bass at lower volumes. Sometime back I sat in my friends i20 top end model and loved the bass the factory installed speakers produced.

Something on those lines..

I am not sure if I should get rid of the existing speakers in my ritz and buy other better speakers or shall i just add a decent subwoofer. Not too keen to add tweeters too as I don't like the shrillness or high tones too much.

What would you car audio pros suggest, I can do with my car's audio?

Thanks,

Hey SV, long time, am good. where are you now a days?
And err.... whats an HPF?

edit - Do you mean high Pass filter? I am not sure if I have it or not. Its just the basic system that came pre installed from Factory. Can I check it online somewhere?

M good.. In pune these days.. Left Gurgaon soon after meeting you.. :)

High Pass Filter.. though i doubt it'll there in your car's stock unit.. still check it.. if it's there then make if OFF.. HPF filters the low frequencies.. this is used when you have sub..

I have this in my car's system.. at one point i was planning to add sub then one of my friend showed me this and made it OFF.. It was set to 80hz so speakers were not getting frequencies below 80hz. Now all is fine at moderate volume level and i get decent bass..

Great tip. Will check it out, although I doubt I have this setting. I know its in my AVR.
OT but where are you in Pune? I was there in Holi...

Normally stock Unit do not have this feature as they are the basic Units but there is no harm in checking.. :) Also try Loud feature, it increases bass a little bit.. even then if you are not satisfied then check out for Infinity Basslink II sub.. have heard good reviews about it and you can fix it under front seat so saving boot space.. :)

M in Bavdhan.. :)

i doubt the Ritz ICE has an HPF. but be sure, switching off HPF is mainly for ovals, not 6' speakers up front. at loud volumes (if you ever play), you would be sending fat loads of voltage to the speakers in the form of bass which might cause damage. best thing to do is to get good oval speakers and put em at the back. they are cheap and loud. front door damping also makes a world of difference. since the cavity inside the door acts as a sealed enclosure.

Thanks Sagar and Shutter, some more queries.
I checked and found there's no HPF or any valid setting in my Car Audio system for the same.

@ Sagar - Just like we take demos for HT systems, where I can take a demo of the same BASSLINK in a Ritz or may be some other car? Is there any where in Delhi or Gurgaon where I could check the BASSLINK out first; Before directly going ahead and buying it?
- Also, if the Head unit of that car is not a factory installed and is a separate console in its self, should that make a lot of difference?
- Checked on Amazon, cost of the BASSLINK is 200 USD in US, not sure of the price in India, any guesses?

@ ShutterX
- Do you suggest I just buy 2 oval speakers and cut my rear tray and get them fixed there? If yes, what brand speakers and what specs do you suggest for a Ritz, for that kind of boot space?
- Also, shall I let the 2 round speakers in the rear doors remain there? Would it be too loud for 6 speakers in a car? I actually didn't wanna waste the rear speakers, if possible.

i suggest you get some nice Ovals. generally JBL have decent ones. but i have heard really good ovals from Image Dynamics. those are rarer to find and demand an amp. hence get some ovals, a small 2 channel amp for powering the ovals, run the fronts off the HU and enjoy...

and as far as door speakers go, id prefer to take em out. because rear door speakers dont provide amazing sound to the people sitting at the back, but disturb the sound coming from the front speakers and the people sitting in front.

cheers
