Hi All,

In india, which are the places to buy cartridges like Ortofon 2M Red/Blue, Nagaoka MP100 or any other "decent" ones?
Also do they sell replacement stylus too?

Regards,
Bhaskar

Rely on your friend/neighbor/relative who is traveling abroad, to hand carry it. For all practical purposes, cartridges are either not available in India, or criminally expensive.

I recently ordered a Nagaoka replacement stylus MP-150 from Japan. Unfortunately got hit by close to 80% duty when it arrived! Moral of the story, buy it yourself and carry it in person!
Hi
While importing one Vintage cartridge i too was charged the same, but after representing for a Revised Customs duty thro the Post Master the duty was revised to 41% which is the actual rate for Personal goods import. So could save about Rs.3500/- in the process.

Thank you for sharing this. May I know what is the process and how long the whole process took for them to come back with the revised charges? Do we have to refuse to pay the initial higher charge and request for revision?

Don't accept the parcel at first. Tell the postman you are going to appeal for revision of duty. Represent your case for lowering the duty to the concerned Post master mentioning that the item is for your personal use only, along with proof of payment with details of purchase eg Website where purchased, along with price, details of Shipping and Insurance if any, Credit card bill etc. It will be forwarded to the Customs Office, where they will review the case and reduce the duty and issue a new revised demand notice. Pay that amount and take delivery of the item. The whole process takes about 8-10 days. But you have to respond within a week's time from the first attempted delivery date.
I did the same thing my duty was reduced from 6800/- to 2500/-.
