NAD had a very good offering in that range with a USB input and ability to be used as a DAC. The sound is clean with a detailed and large soundstage. I'll update after checking the exact model number.
You can try searching for used Musical Fidelity players too. They have a very musical sound in general. A3.5 is a good model to lookout for.
