Hello, everyone, the question(s) I’m about to ask left me wondering at sleepless nights, however they remain a mystery until someone tells me what they have experienced.
In terms of sound quality; CD from CD Player vs Hi-Res files from DAP / Phone.
I have a Marantz 1152 DC wired to Monitor Audio Bronze BX2 and M&K Subwoofer MX-70 for the system.
A Marantz CD Player (CD5005) , playing the album “Labour of Love” by UB40 ; “Kingstown Town”, connected to the “Tuner” input at Marantz
vs
My Oppo Phone (Android) using a DAC Dongle, playing the Hi-Res file of UB40 “Kingston Town” from Apple Music (Lossless) connected to “Aux” input at Marantz
Literally the same song of the same album, with different format, while the one is CD Wav and the other one is Hi-Res 24/192 Wav.
When I tested at the same position at the volume knob, the CD Player seems to give much more “oomph” and volume, much better clarity, detail, and separation,
while my phone with DAC Dongle lacks of punch and seems just “flat like in 2D perception”
How is this happening??
I mean, both are lossless files, but the difference is night and day!
The questions are:
1. Does CD player sound much better than the phone + DAC dongle?
2. If I buy a good DAP, will it compete with the CD Player in terms of sound quality; the punch, the oomph, the details, etc?
3. If I buy a good DAC (like Topping D50s) and connected it to my Android Phone and my speaker system, will it be equal with the CD Player or the DAP in terms of sound quality?
I’m not talking about headphones, since the DAP / DAC is generally (and mostly) used by headphone users.
I highly appreciate the answers (might improve my sleep also)
Great thanks in advance!
