Hello

I am looking to add a AV Receiver to my exisiting Sony BDV-E880 home theater setup. I am considering choosing between Pioneer, Yamaha, Onkyo (cannot find these in any stores though).

Can some one suggest what i should be really looking for while making my decision.

I am planing to stick with 5.1 for the time being so any receiver with 5.1 would suffice.

Thanks

I have a budget of around 35-40k, and can be increased if need be.

How is the marantaz AV receivers? Tbh i had never heard of this brand till date but i hear mixed reviews about them, people saying its very good for music but not as great for movies.

Hi ,You can consider Denon AVR in your list for auditioning .
I'm not visited pune ,so based on Internet search I can suggest one shop - Sound &vision No 22, Galleria, East Street, Camp, Near Inox Theatre, Camp, Pune, Maharashtra 411001.Ph.No.020 26357647.
You can check with these shop or any nearby Reliance digital shop may have these AVR's.
You need to check whether the sony home theater speakers are suitable for these AVR or not.

This was my main concern, if the existing sony speakers would work with the new AVR or not. I had gone to the Sound & Vision guys and they said any speaker would work just fine with any AVR, however the guy in Maharashtra electrical store said they would not work! However failed to give me a satisfactory explanation as to why now.

He also insisted i go for a complete AVR setup with speaker instead of just an AVR.

What are your suggestions?

Hello HKR,

To start with you can select Yamaha, Pioneer, onkyo ...All the 3 can be found in reliance digital all across Pune. Depednig on your budget you can also go fro Denon in Pune Sound scape @ Aundh can be helpful.

If you want more high end stuff then future living at M.G, Road is a better option.

Good luck with the buy and enjoy your time ahead.

:)

Hi HKR,

We can connect any speakers to avr but with few limitations.

Check you speaker impedance, it should be minimum of 6ohms because maximally all the avr come with 6 to 16 ohms power output.

If you connect low powered speakers (like multimedia speaker type in HTiB) then your small speakers will be blown.

Check with your av receiver whether it supports these speakers are not.

Hi HKR,
I was in same dilemma as you few months before, then I decided to buy yamaha htr 3067 based on its power output ratings at different ohms. Paired it with Sony htb speaker package rated at 3 ohm. Speakers worked upto their full potential within acceptable output range of receiver and I never tried to push any of them hard. Always checked any possible heating up of receiver. Double check connection wires for any kind of sorting. I thanks that is all should be taken care of in this kind of setup.
Correct me if anything I forgot or any factual error.

i have an onkyo 6.1 speaker system which bought as HiTB package (HT-S680). But receiver got problems and i want to replace it with some other brand..
Speakers are capable of 100 W -8hms. pls suggest a good av receiver to drive these speaker system

Onkyo speakers general go good with Denon.

My bluray player has only one hdmi out. Can i use hdmi splitter to feed av receiver (for hd sound) and hd tv (for full hd picture). Is splitting possible with hdmi?
