Confusion with Denon AVR 1911

Hi,
I have Denon AVR 1911 and JBL Studio Series (Studio 180, 120C)
1. One issue is that when I play original DVDs on my Blu Ray Player, the sound that I receive from the speakers is pretty less. When I change the sound mode to Multi Ch Stereo, I hear Loud Sound, but in case of Multi Ch In, the sound is not very high... even I increase the volume from the AVR to maximum. I am used to watching movies at a lil loud sound.
How can I ensure that I get Loud Sound from Original DVDs? I am not able to find a solution to this. Please Help.

2.When I connect my macbook to the AVR through HDMI port, the video is displayed on the TV (The Monitor Output is to the TV) but the sound plays from the laptop speakers and not my speakers... Can anyone explain me how to connect my macbook to the AVR so that whenever I just want to listen to music, I need not turn on the TV and can work with only the macbook and the AVR on.

I am really confused about these things... Please help.

1. why do you get multi ch when you play dvd/bluray? you should be getting dolby digital/DTS on your receiver.
2. i have a similiar setup where i connect my imac to the receiver. you need to go to audio midi settings and configure HDMI as the default audio output. That should fix it.

Well, whenever I play a DVD, the mode is not Dolby in all cases... In majority of the cases, the mode changes from Multi Channel Stereo to Multi CH In (I suppose this means Multi Channel Input) Is there some othe rsetting that I should do...
I'll check the MIDI settings for my Mac and see if the sound issue works out...

It seems that your dvd player is sending the audio as multichannel LPCM. Change it to bitstream in your DVD player audio settings so that the decoding is done by your AVR.

The MIDI Setting worked out...Thanks a ton...Another thing that I wanted to know was what should be the settings in HDMI Format. Currently what I have is 8ch 24 bit 192000 HZ. Should I make some changes in this or is this fine for the best sound output?

It maybe your ears if u felt the AVR maxed out ain't loud enough.I can't go anywhere higher than -15 of both my AVRs even for Showoff purposes.I have found DVD audio to be at same level as bluray,unless bitstreaming HD audio.

Did u try various DVDs and all showed this low volume with the BDP? Did u try playing the same DVD through your Macbook via HDMI? How did it appear sound wise??.

Do you have Audyssey EQ correction turned on, try turning it off as it sometimes reduces the sound level as part of the room correction setup. Also there will be a setting in Denon 1911 called Dynamic Volume and it will have values like OFF, Day, Evening, Midnight (relative volume decreases from left to right) try playing around with this setting to see if your loudness improves.

Lastly check if there is a volume control on your DVD player and if that is turned low or has some preset applied like Theater, etc which you may turn off and check.

I tried different DVDs and seems like the problem was not with my ears... (thankfully)
The other DVDs played pretty well, although I found the best sound at maximum level unlike the -15 db level.

i havent set up audyssey yet...is it that helpful in improving the sound? I tried installing it, but the system si not able to identify the front right speaker everytime. i checked the wiring and it detects the speaker initially during soundcheck but later it says that front right speaker not identified.

In that case please try by swapping the connectors of front speakers at avr end (left connetos go to right speaker, vicce versa, no polarity changes), it might be possible that your connectors are not tights enough causing the less loudness.
