I have an Audioengine A5 + AS8(subwoofer) package currently connected to my laptop via the nuforce udac.I also have a 25" Sony CRT TV which I currently listen to using it's inbuilt speakers:o!Is it possible to connect the Audioengine to
the TV using an AVR ?
1. I don't want to use the 3.5mm output of the TV as I have a strong feeling that it would massacre the SQ of the A5s!
2. Would like suggestions for a good AV receiver that could intermittently connected to my laptop too as all my music is on HDDs(is it possible?)
3. A TataSky SD STB would also have to be connected .
4. Music quality is of utmost importance.
5. Budget for the AV receiver is approx Rs.30,000/-
6. If I go for a plasma and Bluray player later on,I don't want to be stuck holding a useless AVR:p

All inputs are welcome as I picked up the A5s based on recommendations in this forum and I'm extremely happy with the purchase.:clapping:

Just clean the audio out jack of the TV and connect the AEs to that jack, they will be fine! don't worry.

You don't need an AVR unless you are planning to buy normal speakers along with the AVR.

TS STB, BDP etc. can be connected to the AEs directly, you don't need an AVR in this case too... In case you don't want the hassle of switching the connections every time, you can go for an RCA switcher.

Yes, they are both different. AVR has an inbuilt "Amp", and it wil also have a DAC/pre-processor etc and it can switch/convert many inputs into required output format (ex: Composite to HDMI video) etc.

As the AEs already have an "amp" of their own, all you need is to connect your source to them.

An AVR could be connected to the AEs, (or the otherway round, rather) - but you will be taking the Audio-Out from the AVR to the AEs rather than connect the AEs to the speaker posts of the AVR.

Would such a use of an AVR improve SQ of a TV for example and could you suggest brands please?Budget could be extended definitely.

If budget is not a constraint, most people here would then suggest that you leave the AEs with your laptop for now and get a AVR + (unpowered) speakers along with your plasma and BDP.

An AVR (connected like this TV-Out/STB-->AVR-->AE5) would not (dramatically) improve the audio quality.
