Connecting to MTS MBlaze on Acer Aspire One (Linux)
My Brother-in-Law has recently purchased the Acer Aspire One to mainly browse the net and listen to music. The Notebook connects to my BSNL Wireless modem easily and I was able to browse the net with it.
Later on in the week, my Brother-in-Law purchased the MTS MBlaze USB modem intending to use it on the notebook. Configuring this modem to work on the notebook has become a headache.
Is anyone using the MTS MBlaze on Acer Aspire one who can help me with the install ?
Some details of the notebook.
Processor : Intel Atom
RAM : 512 MB
HDD : 8 GB
OS : Linpus Linux Lite
The problem:
Linux recognises the USB Modem as a USB Storage device and not as a USB Modem. The software drivers that comes with the device is not of much use.
What I have tried so far :
1. Updated the system
2. Downloaded and installed all the SDK's
3. Downloaded the following packages
a) USB-ModeSwitch
b) USB-ModeSwitch-Data
4. The USB-ModeSwitch package installed after a lot of problems.
5. The USB-ModeSwitch-Data errors out on install.
I can give specifics, if required.
I realise that this is best asked on linux forums but seeing that there are quite a few linux users here, I thought I will give it a try. I am not a hard core linux man but with a bit of hand holding, I should be able to get the job done.
Alternatives explored:
1. Install Windows XP from a bootable USB drive.
2. Return the Notepad and buy a regular Laptop.
Regards
Sunil
