Moving from TS as they do not offer Neo Sports etc. which I like to watch. Don't want to switch to Airtel or Hathaway, so the options are Dish or D2H. Any comments on which to choose please?

I am not sure about all the channels on Dish - seems like there is some issue, where someone was placing ads asking exisiting subscriber to call Dish TV and demand certain channels or that it would not be available wef 1-1-14: Can any existing Dish TV subscriber clarify ?

Under the current circumstances D2H seems to be the VFM platform- though I just had a look at their Web site to see that they are apparently following the TS / Star premier -model. Perhaps these new HBO HD channels ( see other thread)will also be on special subscription across all providers.

I think this seems to be an issue with Dish as they have stopped providing the Colors and some other channels which were part of the package. Not sure but since couple of days back these channels are shown as "Unsubscribed channels" even though they are part of my Dad's South HD package.

Dish keeps updating trheir channel list regularly but at this point owing to the cost factor I recommend D2H although I have 3 Dish connections oyt of which two is HD. And not all channels that Dish says HD are true HD but around 60% is true HD, yet this 60% is more than what Tata Sky or Airtel (pathetic customer care) provides in similar cost. I do not know about Videocon customer care but Dish customer care is now very responsive and fast (it was not like this 3 years back before they launched HD). Remember that will increading HD channels Dish is ot incresing bandwidth resulting in pooer transmission quality than it was 2 yrs back

Dish TV has launched a new service that allows its subscribers to select channels on 'request only basis'. It has proposed to classify most channels as 'on request' channels. Subscribers will receive these channels for a limited time trial, and can opt out beyond the trial period. Consumers get a credit for any opted out channels. That credit amount can be spent taking Movies on Demand, etc.

IndiaCast ( which distributes COLORS) has been told by TDSAT to give its channels on this basis, after its current contract with - the DishTV concludes in December.

IndiaCast earlier refused, claiming that Dish TV had demanded carriage fee.
Dish TV countered saying that it had not asked for a carriage fee, but will adhere to IndiaCast's Reference Interconnect Offer (RIO) which the distributor is bound, by law, to accept.

I have both (and TS too) and I would recommend D2H. Better prices, more HD channels and PQ is better too.

Thanks for all the recommendations and responses. I did not have much of a choice. I filled in both providers request forms at 9 PM on 31st. By 10 PM I had a call back from Dish TV in Noida and by the next morning they sent and engineer to fix my connection! I have yet to hear back from videocon. So my choice was decided by fate - let's see how it turns out!

Good Luck - can you tell us which pack you subscribed to, and what it costs actually? Any idea on what exactly is the A la Carte offer - where you are supposed to get the channel free ? Dish seems to be one of the major players who has Travel XD as a special subscription channel. I note with interest that Dish does not have a support/call system in English - it is either "North" or 4 South Indian Languages...ackward for a person like me, whose Hindi skills are limited.

Yes, I was very worried about the English language option too - but all my communication to date has been in English.
At the moment, as I am a new subscriber, I get all the channels free for 3 months. Their website is pretty comprehensive about the packs on offer. I watch on a 50 inch TV and as yet have no complaints about the PQ; it is adequate.

Tried to speak to Dish TV three times today, the level of ignorance of their offers on STB and packages is breathtaking. I finally managed to get a person a little while ago, ( all the calls were to their 1860- no) who asked for my mobile and said " our Mobile sales team will call you"! interestingly when you press the "No 4" English lang option, the message is the choice / button is wrong -please try again! or words to that effect.
While the HD packages are simple enough, I cannot understand the logic behind the " non HD A La Carte Channels"- does one need to send an sms for each of the channels we require, apparently given free of cost - but for how long ?
I note with interest that Dish offers a couple of FTA channels that other DTH platforms ignore, like DW ( German) TV 5 ( France)..or does Airtel/ Hataway carry them ?

D2H is better any day..i m also staying in noida and have recently switched to d2h from dish..found the following for d2h vs dish:

cc is good..competitive hd package..user friendly interface..(depends on person to person..i found d2h is better).. better pq..

I had old Dishtv connection in my old home, now it was not used for more than six month so dishtv called us to return STB(SD).After inquiring at my dealer I came to know that STB is the DTH providers property. So I returned to dishtv agent n they told me that we will get refund of Rs.500 which is half price of my STB.I said okay n returned it.They also told me I will get the money thr DD.But till date I have not received the DD.I returned my STB in Oct.2013.Has anybody gone through such issue? As I have no right to start new thread therfore I am posting it here

Dish TV starts offering IndiaCast UTV channels for free on demand Posted on: 03/01/2014 08:55 AM TelevisionPost TeamShare on facebook Share on twitter Share on email Share on print More Sharing Services MUMBAI: Starting 1 January, Dish TV has removed 22 IndiaCast UTV-distributed channels from their packs and put them a la carte. But the direct-to-home (DTH) operator is running a special offer whereby charges for these a la carte channels, including Colors, Bindass, MTV and UTV Action, are waived if someone makes a request for them. Dish TV has added some other channels to the a la carte repertoire which are being offered free on request. The channels will, thus, be available to subscribers without any extra cost. We have taken the channels on RIO [Reference Interconnect Offer] basis and will continue to pay IndiaCast their fair share. For consumers, we are offering those channels as a la carte, without any charge. And we have added a couple of more channels to the a la carte list. If you compare, the consumer is going to get more channels for the same price. And he can select multiple channels from the a la carte offering, Dish TV CEO RC Venkateish told TelevisionPost.com. Dish TV website has been updated with the information on the new packs. This displays the new a la carte channels available free of cost. Dish TV has also added Ten Sports, Sahara One, Firangi and a few more channels to the a la carte list. IndiaCast UTV, said an executive, is keeping a close watch on how the scenario is unfolding and may move the Telecom Disputes Settlement and Appellate Tribunal (TDSAT) if Dish TV fails to comply with the rules by bundling these a la carte channels as part of any pack.

Yes I just set up those free a la Carte channels mentioned above. But what I am not sure is, does that mean this sets up a situation where they may/will start charging for these from some future date as it is not part of a pack?
