Really silly question....but trying to understand if I can make my denon 520BT into a power or Preamp with the existing connections at the back for more quality and power.

Is there a way?

Can I use it/ convert it/ make it more powerful by adding another power or preamp?

Thanks.

Nope.. You can't use the Denon as Pre-map as there are no pre-outs for any channels other than sub-out.. You can't use it as power amp too..

Since you looking for more power, what speakers are you using it with?

I use it with the polk sub and the polk rti A1.

I basically don't want more power.... The avr is more than enough for me for movie and music. What I want is to turn the volume knob less. On the volume scale, I need to go to about 65 on a scale of 1-100 to watch a movie or have a music party :-)

Of course with the wife watching with me, 45 on the scale is sufficient!

Polk Rti A1 has good efficiency for a BS speaker...Set the crossover to 80 Hz/100 Hz on the AVR and check the channel levels with a SPL mobile app and try to hit 75 - 78 SPL from your listening position.. Try & check if this brings any change in volume..

An amp that has split preamp and power amp section will typically have a removable U link connecting the preamp section to the power amp section.

To use it as a preamp driving another power amp, simply remove the U link and take the output from preamp and connect it to external power amp.

To use the power amp section, remove U link and drive the power amp section from an external preamp.

If U link is missing it means the connection from preamp to power amp is internally hardwired.

No unfortunately this denon cannot be used as pre or power amp.

As suggested above sit in your listening position and use an spl meter to level your speakers to 75db. You can also use an app on your mobile. They are not very accurate, but will do the job.

Hmm have you gone through your receivers manual? It would be nice to go through it once.

On your remote, do you see a CH LEVEL button. Hit that and you should see options yo adjust each speakers volume. Adjust the volume with a spl app running on your mobile, till the meter shows 75db. 80-90db for the sub.

Ahhh ok so I increased the dB level on my front l and front r speaker's to +5.0 dB.... now the speaker's have gotten louder.... by that I mean earlier with the volume at 50 it was not that loud....but now with the volume at 50 it's become really loud.

Loud means loud.... not deaf loud.... or harsh or jarring loud.... just loud.... in no way has the quality of sound been affected.

Hi

Great!

Typically Audyssey does a neat job but you need to tweak the levels etc as per your expectations to enjoy good playback.

Yeah but the 520BT does not have audessey sadly, just their own software.

How to run test tone? In my amp if connected to audyssey mic the pink sound comes. I have a digital sound level meter.
When I ran with audyssey the Fr Spks crossover gets 40(manually changed to 90,which is okay) In levels Fr spks shows different as -6.0 &-4.5 dB.
Just want to do some more tweaking.
Thanks

Music playing will not help as you cannot get a full range frequency consistently. You don't need to connect the mic, just go into the channel level menu and select manual option. That will allow you to select each speaker. Set the master volume to reference 0 while doing this. Increase the level till your meter shows 75db at main listening position.

You can get into speaker level menu & run the check.. Since your AVR has Audyssey, you don't need to tweak it.. It would get it right..

It is recommended by Audyssey not to tweak the speaker levels after calibration, as this would impact when Dynamic EQ feature is used.. Basically increasing / decreasing levels seems to offset the balance that Audyssey Dynamic EQ is trying to recreate..

Or should I to play a music to test the dB.

Not reqd..

If I increase the level of the speaker then what the role of Main volume knob?

Setting the speaker levels is to achieve 75 db SPL from the listening position for all speakers... Volume levels might vary depending on the speaker calibration, but the function remains as is..

Honestly even I haven't understood this completely.....

What's the exact procedure?

I sit at my listening position, on the Chanel level I have L and R speaker, both I can set from -12 to + 12 dB. Currently by default it's set to 0.

Keep the master volume at 0.

Increase the Chanel level gradually till I get 75 on the sound meter. But what am I hearing on the sound meter if the master volume is at 0?

Sorry seems stupid but thoroughly confused. Please be nice to a not so smart colleague lol :-)

Yes that's perfectly right, except for one small bit. The 0 mentioned is 0db and not Zero Volume. Switch your denon volume meter to show dB instead of 0-100 speedometer.
