They are just trying to SCRAMBLE out brain and stop cribbing that all the REAL HD channels are not in the base pack. Can you see if you get ALL the other SD channels like Discovery and Nat Geo or they have FOOLISHLY stopped it as they are showing their REAL HD channels! Atleast we should get all the "unique" SD channels which are not upscaled in "Platinum HD" pack. Also, some channels like Times Now has ghosting issue in upscaled channel which they might not have fixed till now (can't confirm). With new changes SD versions of subscribed HD channels will not be visible. Looks like it's because of customers who compare HD versions with SD versions to realize that their HD isn't real HD.
This implies that there now are fewer channels at the same cost. Earlier Rs. 450 per month would get you HBO SD. Now it won't.
Is this an attempt to fix a problem or create a new one?

Only those SD channels have been dropped whose HD channels are upscaled versions of the SD channels. So discovery SD and national geographic SD are still available to me.
Their upscaled as well as real HD channels have terrible audio. Nothing to write about. I have been attempting to watch some movies on Movies Now since yesterday as it is available to me now. Every-time I raise the volume from audible to enjoyable levels, I am afraid of damaging my expensive speakers. Movies Now's stereo output contains surround channels mixed at unreasonably high levels. Sigh............
How do the DTH regulating authorities turn blind eye for so long even when Dish TV claims upscaled channels to true HD channels?
Yes, but the ruling has never been a blanket ruling. So for new violations, customers can still file new complaints.I read somewhere that court has ruled against any regulations for DTH customers using HD boxes.
