Way too costly packs yet again for Upscaled channels

20zntbr.png

Rs 550 per month

Doesn't change anything. I have requested a downgrade to silver saver. Let's see what they say :-).

EDIT: one change. Movies now is in base pack. It still says that I haven't subscribed to it. Will write to them about it.

One more Edit: They have moved Movies Now to Platium HD pack for existing customers also. Has to be "Asli" effect :-).

With new changes SD versions of subscribed HD channels will not be visible. Looks like it's because of customers who compare HD versions with SD versions to realize that their HD isn't real HD.

This implies that there now are fewer channels at the same cost. Earlier Rs. 450 per month would get you HBO SD. Now it won't.

Is this an attempt to fix a problem or create a new one?

They are just trying to SCRAMBLE out brain and stop cribbing that all the REAL HD channels are not in the base pack. Can you see if you get ALL the other SD channels like Discovery and Nat Geo or they have FOOLISHLY stopped it as they are showing their REAL HD channels! Atleast we should get all the "unique" SD channels which are not upscaled in "Platinum HD" pack. Also, some channels like Times Now has ghosting issue in upscaled channel which they might not have fixed till now (can't confirm).

Only those SD channels have been dropped whose HD channels are upscaled versions of the SD channels. So discovery SD and national geographic SD are still available to me.

Their upscaled as well as real HD channels have terrible audio. Nothing to write about. I have been attempting to watch some movies on Movies Now since yesterday as it is available to me now. Every-time I raise the volume from audible to enjoyable levels, I am afraid of damaging my expensive speakers. Movies Now's stereo output contains surround channels mixed at unreasonably high levels. Sigh............

I have the same problem with "Movies Now" channel.

This problem of Movies Now was reported the FIRST DAY IT WAS LAUNCHED! Infact, I had told them that they have significantly increased subwoofer volume and surround speakers are not mapped correctly which gives TERRIBLY distorted sound and risk of damaging our expensive speakers.. Had a talk with their senior technical management 2 months back (I have their mobile number). And instead of fixing these issues, they want me to swap my HD box purchased for Rs.3k to SD and choose any pack from it! They promised to give FULL credit to the number of days I have issues (which are from DAY ONE - 1st STB hardware errors and now these "HD" channels) or give a full refund with compensation.. Now they are unable to resolve the issues and trying to persuade to get an SD connection back!

How would you react to this?

I wonder why are you guys selecting Dish HD and putting up with their nonsense. "No customer" is the best way to get them working.

How do the DTH regulating authorities turn blind eye for so long even when Dish TV claims upscaled channels to true HD channels?

I read somewhere that court has ruled against any regulations for DTH customers using HD boxes. In summary, if one is rich enough to have HD, and it is ok for the DTH company to exploit him.

I guess the only way that they would learn the lesson is when customers leave them. Currently, most of their customers are still enjoying their new HD boxes, and probably not eager to switch to other operators by spending more. So, for time being they are doing OK.

Yes, but the ruling has never been a blanket ruling. So for new violations, customers can still file new complaints.

What helps DishTV continue with this marketing is that they are supplying the content at HD resolution, although it's upscaled. So a lawsuit can't be filed against them saying they are not supplying HD. Unfair advertisement is one possibility. There is little point in anyone trying a lawsuit on that on their own since the best outcome we can hope for is that further Ads will contain a star on top of truHD with an explanation in near unreadable font that content may be upscaled.

Sometimes I feel that Dish, Tata, etc have made a syndicate to(rape loot the customers turn by turn. Dish says the customers have to subdcribe to Rs.450 pm, meaning no SD channels on HD stb read un-tru HD. I feel Rs.300pm for upscaled channels seems a good offer till date by the time all channels become FUll HD 1280X1080i and not UN-TRU HD
