I recently bought Onkyo 3500 which came along with the cables. I read couple of posts and threads and also some of my friends who got separate cable and had hooked it up. Is it really worth spending on another set of cables. Will it make any difference to the quality as compared to the cables already provided by Onkyo.

Could you tell us what cables did you receive along with Onkyo 3500 ?

Good quality cables are shielded from electro mangentic inteference...You can check the MX Cables from India.. They are very good VFM products..

MDR Electronics - MX Electronics - Home Theater Cables & Connectors - Computers & Laptop Accessories - Pro Audio / Studio Audio Cables & Connectors - Audio Video Components & Accessories - Fiber Optic Component & Accessories - Cable TV Component & Ac

How can I check that?

Also I visited MX store in our city and they were quoting price of Rs 12, Rs 18 per meter on the wire.
In layman terms how can this help?

Even I need to buy speaker cables as the standard Onkyo cables are short for my setup. Just spoke to one of the av dealer in city and he has suggested to go for Binary speaker cables - 16 gauge, which according to him will give 'better result' than the Onkyo cables. He has quoted Rs 75 per mtr.

I hope you are referring to the speaker cable... I am sorry.. i thought you were referring to the HDMI/Optical/Co-axial/Composite/Component cables...

As for as the speaker cables are concerned, i haven't used MX...So can't say anything...But i have using Belden speaker cable.. They are good...

I'm not sure the guage for the wires supplied with the 3500. They would be very basic speaker cables. Would you see an improvement with better cables..........is subjective. It makes sense to spend on cables for higher end systems and moreso if cables have to run larger distances.

16 gauge is the basic minimum which can go upto 10-12 gauge if you need to cover 50-100 ft. For surrounds you can even go for 20 gauge unless you need 30-40 ft.

Overall performance of the system also depends a lot on room acoustics and speaker placement. Most of us get caught up into this trap thinking higher the price better the sound.
