hi, im planning to buy squeeze box touch very soon,im very confused about how exactly it works, can someone please enlighten me..
1.it says we can play music through wifi so does it mean i can access all the songs on my PC and play it at the same quality as my pc does?
2.my speakers (z -5500) are connected to the pc so when the SB streams the music does it stream directly to the PC or speakers.
3. lately im listening to India's First Internet Radio Station for International Music | MY OPUS RADIO so can i access it through SB??

so as per my info here it comes :

1: it has got a lan and a wifi port .. so you can connect it to your home network and you might need to share files on your single or multiple pc and it will be able to stream them either through wifi or lan..

2: it wont play files on your pc. or your speakers connected to your pc.
it will just stream them . decode them and you would need a speaker setup connected to it ( has got digi- coax- optical ) and analog ports behind.

3: as it connects to internet you can browse many radio channels through it
including the famous Pandora radio ( famous in US). most of the online radio must be free however few talk shows and podcasts can be paid.

4: its a music player by itself : has a sd card and usb slot so you can play files directly on to it.. and use it as a photo album..

this is what i know about it.. however i may not be precise..
but thats the basics bout it...

how much is that you getting it for ?

A bit OT, but Is there any media player similar to SB touch, with the following features:

1. Excellent SQ (similar to SBT)
2. A display to just browse the tracks
3. Hard disk connectivity via USB

The streaming feature of SBT is something which I feel I may never use. Also the usage of internet radio feature would be rare. I don't want a video player. I like to watch any videos on my laptop.
So, instead of paying a premium on these features, I would like to have something which is relatively cheaper than SBT. Is this wishlist too unrealistic? :o

@theironhorse, thanks man, u have almost cleared my doubts.. so..
1. does this mean i have to unplug the speakers connected to PC and connect it to squeezebox,if yes then do i need a amp?
2.how is the sound quality like? can it play as good as my PC or a CD player?

Yes. You need an amp. Squeezebox cannot driver speakers.

Sound quality is very good. No need of a dac at the first place. If you are not satisfied then you can think about an external dac.

WIth regards to the CD player, SB touch won over my cd player. I am happy with SBtouch.

Thanks

well if you connect the same speakers as your pc.. thats the logi.. you dont need an amp.. they are active speakers..
just plug via optical and you are good...

however logi won't do justice to stereo music as they cant create that soundstage...

rather get a tripath amp and ca speakers for lil extra price and play it through a cdp .. that will give you better sound. however if its bout portabilty .. squeezebox can surely help...

Is there much difference between Squeezebox Classic and Squeezebox touch in SQ? Are they use different DAC?

Ohh.. Classic is discontinued. But how is the SQ of SB classic vs the SQ of SB Touch? I have an offer for used SB Classic. Does it sense to take it SB Classic at 9.5k?

Amitji I don't think the price is attractive as the inbuilt SB Calssic DAC is rather moderate and you will need to connect an external DAC. Please contact Bobby on the forum, he has just placed an order for a SB Touch.

SB Classic> Beresford DAC 7510 MK4> Lyrita SET 2A3 + PMC TB2/ Vintage highly modified B&W DM4 > Lyrita ICs + Cables => MUSIC

so what you are saying is in order to get good sound quality,i should get 2.1 stereo speakers, amp and a cdp?? or if portability is the issue then squeezebox plugged directly to 5500 via optical, then im good..

Scroll down this linked page and check out the OneSource. Seems promising but unreleased & no pricing available yet. If it is priced right - may be a killer.

Purchase the Audiolab 6000A Integrated Amplifier at a special offer price.
