Hi Guys,

Its been about 2 weeks since I received by Epson 6100 projector and so fat I have burnt close to 2.5 hours. Immediately I notice, lot of white "dead" cells :sad: in the screen when the screen is dark, these dots are scattered across the screen.
Epson personnel visited by place, saw the issue, immediately confirmed that the issue was not with the projector but with my receiver. I said.. what the ....
I played the movie directly connecting my media player to Epson and still the same. He asked me to use a different HDMI cable, still the same.

Finally he called someone and confirmed back stating that I should use VGA cable to check this issue, if the issue of pixelisation does not come, it is not a problem with the projector.. wait.... im going crazy as he speaks. :mad:

i told him that I don't want to use VGA cable. please simulate this issue with another projector. so what this guy does..... takes his 1.3 megapixel camera from this mobile and starts taking photos of the dark screen.

I said enough. I asked him to leave my place immediately, I was handed over a report that mentions problem with pixelisation. issue still persists.

turns out he is from an authorized service center for EPSON that mainly takes care of printer and stuff... :mad:

As soon as he goes, I fire the service center and get a direct number of Epson service personnel and I speak to him.

Here is the main part... He says, some of recent 6100 6100e projectors have this issue and that he would take my projector to a demo room and see the issue himself and report back to HO and confirm and do the needful.

Meanwhile, as asks me to enjoy the projector and want me to use it as if nothing happened.:mad:

Amidst all this, I must admit, the projector is awesome, great color and 3D is jaw dropping.

Pros:
Lot of lumens and settings to play with.
Great 2d picture and color
Awesome 3D
handsome projector/well built
Cons:
Black is not black (as expected)
Lot of lumens could be an issue for some one (like me)
Picture not as sharp as expected (still testing various sources)

I am attaching some pictures as usual as part of initial review. All these taken from S2 in dark room.

sad to see the diff in service between Epson US & Epson India... Epson is known in the US for its absolute fantastic customer service... & this is what happens here in India... 1st thing I would do is shoot a email to epson attaching a video & some pics showing ur issue demanding ur projector be replaced(not serviced)... The service centre guy is just talking out of his A$$... Then you should also threaten them that if ur projector is not replaced you will be forced to take them to consumer court... Also post ur issue on epson india's facebook page so that they have to respond to u ... www.facebook.com/epsonindia

Poor customer service is such a pain! I hope things are sorted swiftly. Have you calibrated the projector or are you using it straight out of the box?

Hi Sri,

Can u plz post some pics of the problem u are facing? Irritated to see Epson Customer Service behaving so poorly. Like Rajadeep said, one of the reasons I too went with Epson is hearing the stellar Epson CS stories from abroad.

@Rajadeep - Now lot more white pixels than yesterday. I am in touch with EPSON service manager and he has promised that this issue will be taken into highest priority. Sure. I will post it onto Epson india page.

@Ankur - No, no calibration as such, just tuned sharpness and brightness to suit my room.

@imrahn - can you check your projector as well. you need to see this issue in a dark scene, just not the backround for white pixels. I cannot post the issue because, my camera cannot pick up such tiny pixels, even when they are visible to human eye. Let me try.

What next....Im guessing.

Any update mate? I just tried and couldn't find any white pixels scattered, tried going up close.There are a few dust particles in the lens , but those have no impact that I could see on the projected picture. Tried pure black wallpapers and some dark gaming backgrounds.

Feel bad about the pixel issue. Spending 1L and and not got benefited from day one is a pain.

Regarding colors Every PJ has to be tuned to get full potential, all your Cons will go off once it is calibrated.

Hi,

These are calibration settings suggested by one of the projector review websites:

"Typically Contrast and Brightness (white balance and black balance), need to be done first. Color saturation and gamma also need adjustment. In the case of this Epson most of these default settings were fairly close to ideal.
Settings for measurements (default values are in parenthesis):
Cinema Dynamic Living Room Natural
Contrast = (0) 0 0 -1 0
Brightness= (0) 0 0 1 0
Color Saturation= (0 for all)
Tint= (0 for all)
Color Temp (default)= 6500 6500 7500 6500

Home Cinema 3020 RGB Settings
To try these, open the menus, and from the Image menu, select Cinema mode. Then go down to Advanced. Open it, then select RGB. Place these number in, replacing the defaults. The improvements should be pretty obvious. We recommend you then save your settings under User 1.

Home Cinema 3020 Post Calibration settings:

Cinema (User 1) Quick Cal of Dynamic (User 2)
Offset R = -7 R= 0
G = 1 G= 0
B = 9 B= 0

Gain R = 3 R= 0
G = -2 G= -10
B = -1 B= 0

Color Saturation: -5 0
Tint: 0 0
Gamma: 2.4 2.4

If you are not calibrating, I simply recommend lowering the color Temp control from the default 6500K to 6000K"

Thanks Srinisundar and Amarendra.

Yesterday the EPSON personnel visited my place again and saw the issue. they have taken the projector with them to resolve the issue. they said, they will require a days time. I am expecting them to return my projector tomorrow.

I will keep everybody posted as to post service. if there is still any issues, I will post on to facebook and EPSON office directly.

@Chirag, thanks. Sure will reach you if required. Do you know someone in EPSON?

@ Dear All,
Good News for me.....
EPSON has agreed to send a new piece as replacement.... i will be sending them the invoice copy now...
Keeping my fingers crossed on this one.... Hope things will be better with the unit. Also, I can use my current projector until new one comes...

Hi all. sorry. i shd have updated this couple of days back. Finally my projector is replaced. i hv a new piece now. Thanks to our forum member Chirag for taking interested and lookig into this personally. will share experiences on this one soon.

Good to see that you got a new projector as replacement.
Can you let me know have you ever tried 2d to 3d conversion ? does it really work ? It is mentioned as a feature , just wanted to know does it really make sense to use this ? probably for sports like cricket and football ?

Hi friends
One of my friend in Dubai bought Epson 6100 projector and there is only one 3D glass included in the package. Whats the price for extra glasses in India. Here one glass is Dhs.450 which is about Rs.6500.
Thanks
Anil.

Thanks sribuddy.
Epson works in RF frequency. So others won't match.
Anil.

Sri is right....the current gen SSG 4100 from Samsung available for 1.4k is also RF and works well with Epson, if u can live with non-rechargeable battery and flimsy construction.
