Extreme confusion for surrounds!

I've a confusion / question and thought to ask here to get some solution from experts
I need a pair of surround speakers. I don't have empty walls on both sides (right and left) but have rear where I can use speakers for my surrounds.
Now the question is should Bookshelf speakers be used for rear or bi-pole (like Polk FXi A4)? . Does bi-pole can only be used on the side walls for better sound staging? or if I use bi-pole at rear it would be a waste :-?
gist: Bookshelf or bi-poles for rear walls? Please help.

Hi

Both would do...all depends on how you will mount them and how close to the ear level.....Bi Pole will give a nice effect....

Look at Taga or Wharfedale or Polks....

Hi, I have no other way mounting them except on rear flat walls, would bi-pole still works? the sound won't be directional then, is it?
Wharfs are slightly on expensive side are Taga speakers good? I mean compare to Polks

There is an exclusive Taga owners thread and it seems have caught the fancy for some HFV members who use the same...if this is for surround.. I don't see any major challenges.....

Thumb rule.....see the speaker which has the highest sensitivity.......88db and above....

See speakers which can out the lowest frequency (closer to 20hz) and highest freq (towards or more than 20khz)...

Once you got these technicalities in place, you cant go wrong in terms of quality....cabinet design, wall mounting etc are other factors....

I have given some links....go through them and also your local dealers...see who offers the best rate with warranty and bill and take the plunge

For rear wall, either would work. I have a pair of Polk OWM3 on my rear wall and they sound quite good. I have not tried out a Bi Pole though, never had a budget for them, moreover, needed something with a small form factor.

for the rear small form factor is the way to go for me too. Thinking of RTi A1 but they are very deep as RTi A3 and therefore protrude too much from the wall behind if I mount them, if I place them then stand will be needed as an additional expense now I'm finalizing between FXi A4 and warfaedale diamond 10.DFS BUT then Taga harmony platinum S-100 specs are much better

Yes I had Polk Monitor series before the OWM3. The Polk Monitor were hung on the wall and they did look a bit odd. The OWM3 on the other hand hang flush against the wall.

It all depends on how it looks and the space available in your room.

Bipoles have very wide dispersion but they are still directional. If you don't have lots of listeners, then you don't need speakers that spray sound in every direction. Get a pair of bookshelf speakers that sound similar to your other speakers and mount them on the back wall, spread apart as wide as symmetrically possible. Point the speakers at the listening area so that they provide cover to all the listeners.

Your Warfaedale setup looks nice! the speakers also seems promising, best part cheaper than FXi a4 they look something like this inside, right?

IF Rti A1 (or) A3 have more depth for mounting as surrounds, you can consider Polk OWM 3/5 .. These speakers are shallow, have key hole mounts to hang on wall (or) mounting threads to use with brackets which also gives you the advantage to tilt to your needs..

Yes exactly. They worth the money. Audiophile s day we should get best centre. R and l speaker and subwoofer is what you should choose and surround speakers is simple speakers.

Hi, already have RTi A3 as fronts, I'm thinking of matching all Polk and so considered FXi A4. But then Wharfedale DFS and Taga platinum surround seems good too and cheaper than Polk. Would mismatch create any issues? like fronts of Polk, surrounds of Wharfe and center from another brand

Centre, right and left speakers should match so that it creates front stage rest of the speakers don’t bother and some of fellow members have different speakers in their system but they are getting good effects. Ultimately judgement lies within you and you should like what you hear if possible audition the speakers. All the best
