I just discovered that i had a very old Sony Discman with me, i think atleast 10 yrs old. i had rejected it with the advent of MP3s (as it could not play one). but just came across it today. plug it to my amp and surprised to see it play sweetly almost like new for all my cds. i think this kinda temp solves my issue of getting a dedicated cdp as the performance of this is not bad at all, considering its a stand alone cdp.
can the experts give the reviews.
The model no is: D-E350

but over all happy :clapping:

I too have located my Discman .... model D-T2 .... remembered about it after reading your post. I think it dates back to the time when this was introduced ... so, pretty old stuff.
It has FM/AM radio too.

Don't have the earphones, so don't know the SQ. BUT, the CD is spinning effortlessly ...... :)

mine does not have the fm/am but rest all is ok. i have connected it to my amp and i am using as a cdp and pretty happy with it.
lets see what the experts have to say about the SQ of it.

Hi Denzong,
If you are happy with it, that's what matters!! Don't worry about what the experts think:).

What if experts say the preset setup is good however a dedicated cdp beats it to ground and you end up buying 20K cdp to only know that you simply cannot make any difference between the two that you have.
If you know its good enjoy ,you are lucky and dont wait for some expert to put a stamp on your luck . You earned it. :)

well i am surely enjoying the setup
need to get an adapter for the same. battery would juice my wallet
also now in search of a decent amp

Wow Denzong, it must be a wonderful feeling to be able to discover an old device and to find that it still works!

I am forever searching fore old devices. Just got a Grundig Spool player. Looking for spools to play on it though. anyone have any to spare?

Old stuff is the best.
The best CD players were made between 1984 and 1989 or 90. They had a TDA1541 chip in it. When that chip went out of production, literally the CD player market dropped a big level, and IMHO its yet to catch up. Yes dedicated DAC's have caught up, but not mass market CD players.

Back in 1985 you could have bought a $100 sony that had a TDA1541. Today's CD player has nothing close, and you need a $2000 boutique DAC and a $2000 transport to get close.
Of course in 1985, a TDA1541 was nothing special, and people just as soon bought cartridge or carousel type players none that had a TDA1541.

Cool.
Srinath.

even me after trying couple of dedicated CD players in the price range 60-70k, I settled with my Pioneer BDP-LX52 blueray player/Marantz dv6600 dvd player. Didn't find worth investment for the small improvements dedicated CDP would have brought. Pioneer is driving Odyssey extreme stereo/Candela valve pre/Totem Forests. I'm happy with the overall presentation. I might add a DAC later if at all it's going to be worth. If one is happy & convinced with the sound better enjoy your eqmnt, instead getting bothered with so called high-end stuff & reviews.

Where did you find the Grundig? And for how much? Where are you based? This brought back superb memories. My dad had a Grundig TK 46

Hi sdk

Got mine from a seller in Pune. Am in Mumbai. There's another one I've spotted, but its up North in UP. Let me know if you're interested in acquiring that.

For excellent sound that won't break the bank, the 5 Star Award Winning Wharfedale Diamond 12.1 Bookshelf Speakers is the one to consider!
