Its been long now that ProFx d't deals with Focal. So I had thought that we (calcuttans) lost yet another good brand that could have been auditioned here, considering the limited number of brands and dealers that we have in the city.

Last week heard that focal was back in the city and its CEO was in the city for inauguration of the showroom. Last Sunday me and FM koushik were wondering about its location( As neither of us knew ).But today on my way home from office, I noticed a considerably big two story showroom(on purna das road/Gariahat area) than the other we have here. It was quite late(ard 8:30pm)but the showroom had not closed by then, so could not resist my self and went ahead to check it out(precisely V706). On enquiring to a man sitting out on the stairs of the deserted showroom, he called up his "Babu" from the first floor of the showroom( which I suppose is the listening room). the person who came down was not at all prepared to expect a customer at that late hrs(may be I took him by surprise)When asked about V706 it took him time to comprehend what he was been asked. A quick glimpse ard made it clear that he stocks some real good stuff. As per him it was Indias first "exclusive" focal showroom. Koushik has already made plans with me to visit him :clapping:. Hope some of the Kolkata FM will too love to join him.

Ya that was a good audiophilic discovery by you ;)

It's been long since I had my last audition in showrooms. So this good opportunity ... Let's go this Sunday.
Any other members joining us?

to me

The small Dynaudio speakers are not the most efficient designs, but most small stand mounts are more difficult to drive that full range models. In a room of your size I would not have a problem. I use a less efficient speaker of 84dB in a bigger room at my home with an A21a series 2, it works really well as Sugden amps do like something to get their teeth into. It is important to remember that small speakers cannot reproduce deep bass so turning them up only makes things louder. If you have to use a small speaker then Proac certainly are one of the best with Sugden. If you want to try a cheaper speaker then the Focal 706V Chorus is worth listening to. I have used these at shows and have had very good comments as they have a very large sound for such a small speaker. Excellent value for money.

Thanks for the heads up crisp.

If you could be a bit more precise with the location...

I absolutely adore my 706s. Was a blind buy based on a mate's recommendation. Works really well with all my gears.

@shuv- Are you coming? The place is on the way from Gariahat towards Rashbihari near Vasanti debi college. Crisp, correct me if I am wrong.

@Kushanava- we are planning for Sunday noon. Will be nice to see you there.

@Koushik - Seems like walking distance from my place. Let me know once you finalize things. Would like to check out the 807.

I think I can plan for it unless something else blocks me ...

Guys,

thanks for this discovery..

I went through the website. I will contact the Mumbai retailer soon.

Are they categorised as warm or bright? Any specific amplifier these work well with? I plan to go for a Denon 1713.

Location:

If you head from Gariahat to Rashbihari. The shortest route will be from stoppage "Hindustan Park", take a left from there ( to be precise take the foot path of M L ROY, the sanitary shop). On the first cross road take a right....walk a while n u can see it on your left side (ACE Audio).

P-256 purna das road,Kolkata-29. Ph:65003453

@ Crisp Thanks once again. Maybe I'll take a stroll and have a look-see. Need to loose a lot of weight anyway.

@ AshD - The Focals aren't bright at all. Warmer side of neutral maybe? Sorry, I'm not an audiophile. But me likes!!

A 1713 may be hard pressed to drive FS. I've used a 2113 and a 5007 with the 706s. Sounds better to my ears with the Marantz AVR.

Reached the place around 13:00. Quite a few auditions were going on.

They have a huge demo room with the satellite speakers and the Chorus 7 and 8 series floorstanders. And a huge NEC display.

Another room has the high end offerings.

A third demo room has JBL Synthesis.

The entire ground floor has different sub sats. An interesting product was a pair of small speakers powered by an amplifier with a bass driver built in the amplifier.

Didn't audition anything as they were pretty busy. I'll be visiting again this week and would update the thread if people are interested.

As for electronics, they have Mark Levinson, YBA and Denon as of now. They are getting the high end Pio AVRs soon.

I visited over there few months back,a sales person was giving some demonstration,SUDDENLY a crap looking sales manager (came to know later) switched off the system !! HOLY S......................as he thought I am not a perspective customer of him...

It was my first and last visit over there, still that day I bought some speaker cable from them....that also proven very poor quality !!

Such a poor service .....never ever going to thought to buy from this store in future...who knows if I face any problem...they might deny to recognize me...

This kind of people must be thrown out immediately from a high end retail store like this.God knows who selected him..
