Hello to everybody,
I have been reading through the threads in this
forum for few days and impressed with the amount of informations one can
obtain here. I am an electronics hobbyist for a long time and for the last few
years took interest in Audio. Recently I completed a project on a 100W RMS
per channel stereo amp (based on LM3886). As I need to play the amp with
the best possible source, I am into turntable selection stage now. Although
I found several options and websites for sourcing a TT, I still need
some advice. I require a TT with the following simple features:

1. It should rotate the LP flawlessly.

2. The output should be extremely clean.

3. It may or may not contain a phono preamp.

4. And absolutely nothing else.

I know my need is very much vintage one, but if there are some modern
company making such simple hi quality TT then I will grateful to
anyone giving me some information.

Best regards
Roushon.

welcome roushon,

plenty of modern companies making modern turntables. project is there in india, dealer is nova audio in bandra off carter road near coffee day above hdfc bank atm. project has turntables ranging from debut III and genie which are bout 20k and 16k to tables bout 1 lakh. the other company is vpi the dealer is sridhar odyssey audio on this forum. they make pretty expensive tables. good tables. you're better off getting a separate phonopreamp. what's your budget for a turntable? i'd recommend a tube phonopreamp from lyrita audio which i'm using. bout 20k and you can change tubes to take performance even higher. else there are the standard solid state options from project themselves, nad, cambridge audio.

regards

There are many options available like you want it. It is in fact common place to find a TT with your requirements...you have to decide on a budget before starting to hunt for one...You have TTs varying from $500 to $5000 and even more...So how much are you willing to pitch in?

Cheers
Pradeep

Thanks a lot

Hello again,

In no time I received three welcome messages. Thanks a lot and
for the suggestions. My budget is about Rs 20K, but with the simple
requirements I have, I think I can get a good TT with this price.
I already have the address of Nova and will contact them soon or
visit them. Regarding preamp I thought of building one myself using
National Semiconductor's some very high performance IC, I know it
will be still not close to valve preamp. I will decide on that later, at first
I should get the TT. My amp already has an very high standard
buffer stage using OPA627.

I will inform in this forum on my finding soon.

Thanks again,
Roushon

If 20K is your budget, Project, Music Hall or NAD basic models. You can take a look at what is available and choose what you like. All of them are well reputed and good.

Welcome to the forum Roushon

Hope you are able to source a suitable TT soon. Also looking forward to your posts about your DIY electronics builds.

Welcome! I have couple of turntables, one of them belongs to my father. I think its Direct Drive Sonodyne... and an old philips. You can keep either for free, if you happen to come to Mumbai. I have upgraded myself to project, with fiber arm. You are most welcome to come and listen.

Thank you very much Pristine Note for your kind gesture and inviting
me to listen to your TT music. I do feel more welcome in this forum
now. I live in Colaba, Mumbai and will contact you when I have time to
visit Navi Mumbai. If you do not mind, how much you paid including VAT
for the Project TT? I just got busy with some family work and so
postponed my `TT hunting' in Mumbai for sometime but soon will be back.
Although I have already got sample of the precious ICs for the
phono preamp.

Regards
Roushon.
