Looks like HDD prices are in free fall here in the US-a month ago I picked up 2TB Samsung for about 99 shipped, now 2TB drives on Amazon are available for $75.These are internal drives, external is under $100. Just as a matter of curiosity, what do these cost in India, now?

bought a Seagate goflex desk 1TB for 3950/-. can be used with an internal drive too-just remove the drive attached to the bay and place the sata (internal-3.5"or2.5") in its place. can be used with the usb 3.0, firewire, esata ports- but you need to shell out more bucks for these.

Bought a 1 TB Hitachi internal drive for $55 (@ Frys B&M) three weeks ago. Last week I checked with BW India (Indira Nagar BDA complex). they were selling for 2600+ Rs. I did not check with him about the speed of the drive or cache. So, the prices are fairly close it seems. BTW, you can check their online catalog (bwindia.net) to get a fair idea of the Bangalore h/w prices.

Got My Book Essential, External Hard Drive, 1 TB, USB 2.0 for Rs 4300/- a few days back.

Saw newegg.com selling WD 1TB portable drive (USB powered) for 90 USD. Unfortunately only US cards are accepted in newegg.

Anyway, with prices dropping like this, looks like HDD prices in the TB range will become highly affordable for everyone soon. I didnt wantt o buy external drives since I anticipate I will be going up soon from my existing level of 6TB to about 10TB. I invested in a Thermaltake USB docking station with eSATA, and once I have a fairly large drive installed in my Popcorn Hour, I think using a new Transcend gigabit switch that I brought back, along with a gigabit ethernet card will allow quick data transfer. All I need to do is to label all the drives and store them in their plastic containers..
