Hdmi cable vs AV cable picture quality ?

i have a new HD ready LED TV. The hathway digital cable box only connects to the TV via a AV cable (red, yellow, white). I'm surprised it doesent have a HDMI input.

does the picture quality become inferior if i connect the box to the TV via the traditional AV cables ?

i dont watch much tv..else i would have got the HD box

Looks like you have hathway SD box. HDMI out is present only in HD boxes. You get good picture quality for only HD channels.

You would be better off with a HD set top box. If you intend to keep the SD box the best option for you would be to change the standard red/white/yellow cable to a good quality cable . I my case when I changed the yellow video cable to high end video cable I saw major improvement in the picture quality.
