-Yet Another Introduction Post-
So… funny story I actually signed up for this forum a while back but totally forgot about it. I only stumbled back here recently while looking for some help, and now I’m really glad I did! Seems like a great community full of folks who actually know their stuff.
A bit about me: I’ve always been super into audio, but I’ve mostly been in the personal listening space headphones, IEMs, DAPs, all that good stuff. Never had a proper home audio setup, but it’s been a dream of mine for ages.
Things kicked off again when I grabbed a pair of Edifier R1855DBs for my PC on a whim and wow, I love them! That little setup reignited my itch to finally build something more serious for my living room, especially for TV and movie watching.
Right now, I’m trying to figure out my next move. I was leaning toward starting with a solid pair of bookshelf speakers and eventually expanding to a full 5.1 setup down the line. My original plan was to grab an AVR like the Denon X1800H so I could grow into a full system later. But then I learned it might not have enough juice to properly drive some of the speakers I’m eyeing.
So now I’m torn: Does it make sense to go with an AVR now, even though I’ll only be using stereo/2.1 for the foreseeable future? Or would I be better off starting with a dedicated stereo amp to really get the most out of my speakers right away?
If any of you were in a similar spot starting with stereo but planning to expand later, what did you end up doing? Did you go AVR first and never look back? Or did you start with a stereo amp and upgrade later? I’d love to hear your experiences and what you’d recommend based
