HFV - A unigender forum?

The designers of this forum haven't kept anyone out.

The general population has very little exposure to good sound. Most of them don't even know or care about "good sound". You tell them Sony is the best sound they'll believe it, you tell them Onkyo is the best sound, they'll believe it. The Indian consumer is obsessed about brand.

You show them a sony with glossy drivers and pastic body beside a lyrita wooden harmony 1 with fostex, they'll pick the sony.

The only real female audiophile I've met in my life is my own mother herself. The menfolk in my family would all rather take sony. She on the other hand prefers a sealed 6.5" full range driver connected to a push pull tube amplifier. The menfolk in the family think she's crazy. Lucky for her I turned out to be an audiophile without trying to be

As for most other people who don't know what good sound is. I truly, truly feel bad for them. They will never know how..tactile..sensational...hair raising..good sound can be.

I would like to say about my wife too, after building my speakers and after i have completed all adjustments to the enclosure and cross-over i will always ask my wife to audition my speakers. If she tells its great only then i will stop any modifications. She has learnt classical music for 12 years and knows better than me what good sonics is all about. I dont think my father or cousins brothers have that kind of knowledge about SQ.

I completely understand what you mean, my mother is the same, she was trained by same singing teacher who taught manna dey and has had good exposure to western classical and classics at the same time. In many ways I trust her judgement over mine.

have you thought of the following

maybe women (who are into serious hifi) are just different(or how my wife interprets " smarter")
they browse the forums from the outside "use what they need" and leave.

they dont have the time or inclination to make posts ( my wifes words - dont hang me)

i say the above because i have a couple clients who are women - having decent gear, good music and have read up on the forum ( but are not members)

How can we get them to participate in this Forum and share their insights. The broader q is what can the world of HiFi Audio (or high end auto, or gadgets, etc) do to attract the "smarter" half? Cricket has done it with IPL, albeit a crappy product.

I remember one Female audiophile (from Kolkata IIRC) some years ago in another forum. She was hard core at that...built her own stuff. Tought me how to build my own RCM (that I didn't learn is a different story)

Women have other aspects like jewellery where they can indulge in vain money wasting.

Men, sadly, have only few avenues - gadgetry being one of them.

I believe we men do not have any much work to do at home when we return home from office and have all the time in the world. But the women usually have to take care of lot of other things at home after work, and by the time than can login to the forum they are bone tired and will not have the inclination to do so. If we help them at kitchen and other chores then may be they can too login and contribute. Till then we have to wait.
