Hello everyone,
I am new to this forum. Like most people, its just the quest for better quality sound (and also video) that brought me to this place first of all. I love music, and also enjoy movies, particularly the HD prints (courtesy of the torrents

My understanding of the finer nuances of sonic technology is limited to brand names. The better the brand, the better the quality. And I used to swear by Sony music systems. Before some months, as I was hunting for a decent set of speaker (2.1 or 5.1) for my desktop and laptop, I was recommended by a shopkeeper to visit a custom audio specialist. My hometown (Berhampur, in Orissa) is a small place, and people there do not recognise names beyond Altec Lansing. So, I did not expect much from the audio specialist. Anyhow, I visited his shop, which was basically a 'Mithai Store' with a small room inside it dedicated for audio-visual purposes. The owner was into designing speaker systems part-time, the prime one being managing the sweet shop. He was ready to give an audition of the speakers that he had. That was the first mind-blowing experience I had when it came to sound clarity. Simply awesome. :clapping: And that kind of a performance demanded a hefty price.
He custom designs the AVRs and the speakers. Pricing for a 2.1 system starts at 18k, and 5.1 starts at 23k. Everything is custom designed. He uses JBL and Sony speakers, and the circuits for the AVR are designed by him. All custom parts are used.
Now, when I got the moolah to buy such a music system, I would like to know what should I go for. I can spend around 20k for a setup. Please suggest me some options. Audio out from my laptop is only stereo. I think I would also have to purchase an external sound card (Creative) which gives 5.1 audio output. I would be mostly connecting it to my laptop. Am still researching more about it. Expert opinions and options are welcome
