HTS to PC only front speakers playing

I do not know if its the right place i'm posting this but i need to figure what cables will i need to attach my HTS to my pc.

My HTS has a audio line in only, got no hdmi or spdif and I connected it to my pc.

My pc has 5.1 audio support and no headphone socket. it has sockets like front right/left, woofer, surround right/left and center.

I used a analog stereo to rca cable and i put it in the green jack on my pc.

I get the sound but only from the woofer and front speakers on my HTS.

Am i using the wrong cable or doing something wrong?

Only options are:
1. Connect via digital (USB/Optical/Coax/HDMI)
2. Connect 6 analogue cables
3. Setup PC to encode Stereo output with Dolby Prologic II

Option #3 is only possible option with most budget HTS that lack digital/discreet analogue inputs.

As your HTS dont have Digital in,you cannot enjoy true 5.1 surr.You can only connect PC with stereo out & if your HTS has DD prologic codec,then you can get pseudo surround.

You will need to use Dolby Pro Logic II.

What is does is it downmixes 5.1 channel to Stereo. Beauty is, it retains 4.1 sound in stereo. It achieves this by:

1. It places center channel on both left and right in equal amount
2. Back channels are encoded with phase-shift
3. .1 channel is merged with center

If HTS is Pro Logic capable, it will "extract" accurate 4.1 sound from this stereo signal.

To do that, you will need to:

1. Have movies with proper 5.1 sound, preferable AC3 (Dolby Digital)
2. Convert movies to Stereo, but retain 4.1 with Dolby Pro Logic II

For this, you can use any software that has Dolby Pro Logic encoder. One such tool is Handbrake (HandBrake).

handbrake is sure an amazing program. My HTS on the other hand supports dolby prologic and prologic II.

cud u also tell me what cable shud i use to connect my HTS to pc. As i said before pc has support for 5.1 surround and HTS only has analog audio line in

after selecting prologic II all speakers are audible except for the center. so i guess thats 4.1 and thats the best i can get.

btw my pc has a spdif out, so is there a stereo to 5.1 converter like stereo to spdif?

Something is wrong.

What is happening here:

1. PC is not sending signals encoded with Dolby Pro Logic.
2. HTS is applying Dolby Pro Logic and generating pseudo surround.

If PC sends proper signal:
1. Left, Center and Right would be audible clearly
2. Back channels (Surround left and right) will carry the same signal, hence 4.1.

That spdf will not be helpful as your HTS doesnt have spdf in OR 5.1analoge in.
