Please help me (TeamBhp beggars didnt approve my request this time also) to find the best available ICE for Suzuki ERTIGA with-in the budget with the following constraints:

- Neutral sound. Dont like the tinny HiFreq sound from some JBL / Poineer speakers/tweeters
- Mid - Highs should be natural with enough body and without any shrilling/tinny sound

Current Plan:
------------
- Components for Front doors. Most probably I will go for actives and will not be using the supplied XOver. Max budget : 8K with a slight buffer if required.

- Optional : old pioneer coaxials for the back door

- Front / Back / Boot doors damping (DIY "Yoga mats or bitumen sheets). If possible, roof and platform also (not now).

- A 4 Channel amp for the front components 6K Max (Flexible). From the reviews, Infinity Reference and Polk DB seems to be shrill/forward sounding, but not yet heard.

- A Mono / a bridgable 2 channel amp for the subwoofer (80-100w is more than enough)

- HU will be a CarPC. I will be using the s/w based Xovers along with a dedicated sound card + 7" Touchscreen (dash mounted). Need to check the feasibility of a second screen (15-17") for the passengers (roof mounted) either for video / net surfing.

- Subwoofer : Finalised. JBL 8" GTO804 (another Horn subwoofer:licklips:)

I need to find the best sounding components and amps and if possible please guide me if you know any dealer who can give genuine equipment with best price.

Note : Priority is only for SQ not SPL.

I will be buying the design and building the cabinet locally. Its BillFitzMaurice's AutoTuba. After having his TubaHT in my theatre, I began to hate other designs.

Congrats on the Ertiga buddy. Looking forward to your ICE'ing man.

Wait for the experts Navin, Hydra, Rjstyles etc to step in :).

Hi Sajith,

i am myself doing an ice uptrade on my car. so will share some of my perspectives.

for the front -- i started with Alpines R176a (old components which i had lying in an attic, then moved to morel tempo 6 components which i am finding a bit shouty on some music and with a very unpleasant hump in bass between 100hz and 200hz in my car -- optra) and am now looking at a 3 way based on Dayton RS.

i would seriously recommend these (which would match your budget if you are doing active

Dayton Audio RS150-4 6" Reference Woofer 4 Ohm 295-372

Dayton ND20FB-4 Rear-Mount 3/4" Neodymium Dome Tweeter 275-035

I have both and can vouch for the sound (esp if crossed over at 80hz) - i plan to put the 150s in the rear (doors) in a two way with the tweeters in the door.

my front sound stage is gonna be a bit different..
for the tweeter
Dayton ND20FB-4 Rear-Mount 3/4" Neodymium Dome Tweeter 275-035
for the mid
Dayton Audio RS52AN-8 2" Dome Midrange 285-020
(mid and tweeter on the a pillar)

for the woofer (mounted in the door)
Dayton Audio RS180-4 7" Reference Woofer 4 Ohm 295-374

will be passive to begin with.. might move to active later

@Kapil, I never thought of this option. The issue is that the difficulty in sourcing them and the highest shipping/handling charges by the carriers that makes it out of budget. Let me check the options.

CMSajith, from what I've heard, the Ertiga follows the theme of the Swift in the interiors. That means you will be able to fit 6.5" speakers in the doors for sure.

I'd skip the rear altogether, and get good 6.5" components for the front door, keeping it a front + sub setup.

At the budget you've set for your speakers and amps, you will get far better value from used stuff. I'm PMing you the address to a resource (populated with friendly guys with insatiable upgrade urges, heh, heh) where you will get a lot of lightly used stuff for great prices. There are quite a few distributors and dealers of good kit there, and you will get at least 10% off new kit just like that.

This place is a FAR better place for ICE queries (and a far more fun place) than that other place that you've mentioned in your original post. I'm not sure if it is really appropriate to link to other forums publicly here, which is why I'm PMing you :)

Evo (run by Satya) in Bangalore would be a very good place to get an install done. If you prefer to get it done in Kochi, I'd suggest you go to Emperor (I can hook you up if you'd like) which is where I get my stuff done.

I'm assuming your total budget is 8k + 6k + 6k = 20K for the components and the amps. You will need to plan for about 3K (max) additional for RCAs and power wiring. I'd suggest you reallocate the original 20K as 10K + 10K (components + 4-ch Amp). Rather than get two amps, I'd suggest you get a good 4-channel amp, and run the front components and the sub off it. You will save money on wiring and on the distribution block, and the space in the boot will be used more efficiently.

I'm very rusty on prices these days, but I think a budget of 10K to 12K for components will get you good stuff (new) from Rainbow or HAT. 10K should get you a pretty good used 4-ch amp.

including all+ shipping by borderlinx i think the combo i suggested would sit within you budget. i will be replying to your pm seperately as well.

of course, all this depends on how it sounds. ( i have not compared the tweeters but the dayton mid woofers were better than the morel tempo 6 mid woofer on clarity and tonal balance, when I compared them in an IB.)

they daytons just do not go very loud, but their mounting depth makes them a comfortable fit in most cars. if you can stretch your budget a bit then, Sb acoustics makes a very nice 6.5" mid woofer with a 2.75" depth for about 65 usd which should be even better. With cabin gain of the car taken into account, you may be able to get by without a sub.. :-)

@kapil, How do you compare the daytons/sb acoustics with the usual suspects like infinity reference / kappa (most preferred by everyone).

Is there any good class D mono amp which can o/p ~100w?

Also is it possible to get the compos with out the Xovers?

cannot say too much.. I have not heard most of the usual suspects. also have not heard the sb acoustics. since i have the daytons, i can compare with recently heard focal base range components, my alpine spr-176a, and morel maximo (in my wife's car) and morel tempo 6 in my car; and to me it's better than all of those.

but a look at the specs of most of the speakers in your price range reveal an underdamped woofer (high qts -- almost always over .8 sometimes over 1.00) and it's consequences on frequency response. if you like that kind of sound..

Rainbow makes some really nice car audio, the sound line is especially known to be awesome and i plan to save up and install in my car. I recently installed a digital designs 4 channel amplifier which is decent, cost me 13k. I also got a hertz ecx 165 coaxial which sound decent for the money i think i paid 4k for them and using a gladden audio subwoofer.

I am already an active "reader" in that forum and didnt get time to post the requirement as it would take months to go through all the threads. Its a good collection of ice and mods info.

True...Dealers of PHD, HAT, Helix, DD etc are active on the forum. It was impossible to get those brands in India a year back. Now we have those top quality brands at very affordable prices. Just dont go for the monotonous focal, jbl, polk etc.

Bought the Hertz HE4 amp for the front components. Need to get another amp for the sub. Following are the current list for front components:
- HAT Imagine
- Helix E62C
- Rainbow DLC6.2 Dreamline
- Gladen M165

Purchase the Audiolab 6000A Integrated Amplifier at a special offer price.
