Is Airtel DVR a HD or SD?

Hi,

Guys brougt the Airtel DVR last month....when i called the CC to buy the connection i told them i want HD only...they convinced to take DVR as it is HD+DVR...so i agreed....now wht i observe in the forums is it is an SD...not an HD....in manual it mentions the o/p as 576p only....can some one please confirm...is this an HD or SD....if it is a SD ...i have to mess with the CC now?

Airtel DVR is only SD it supports res uoto 576p, however u can activate the HD channels and watch it on the DVR.

Airtel doesnt have HD DVR, they have DVR and other STB is only HD STB

I almost bought this box for the same reason. The sales team convinced me that it is an HD box and I got under the impression that it might be a NEW HD DVR I was unaware of. However when I checked the site and internet, there was no HD DVR launched by Airtel. When I asked this question to the sales rep, he still kept insisting that it is an HD DVR which comes with HDMI cable! We should book Airtel for this SCAM! Not sure how many they have scammed this way.

I had the same experience. They told me the DVR was an HD box. They even installed it at my place. The box clearly mentions output via HDMI is up to 576p. The minimum resolution to call anything HD is 720p. I returned the box and asked them to supply me the Airtel HD box which is good.

Please note that you cannot watch the Airtel HD channels (in HD) using this DVR. It cannot output HD video.

same problem with me, that salesman told me this settop box is hd. but now i came to know that salesman mad me fool,
so tell me it doesnt support 1080p video
and tell me what should i have to do now

Airtel has launched HD DVR now, escalate to Airtel and push them to swap the STB.

1080p wont be available on ANY DTH platform, you would only get 1080i HD.

Airtel Hd Dvr has been launched on 4th may foraround 4500 .The one coming with promotions is the SD DVR

I is interlaced and P is progressive. P is better technically but but to sum it up a normal consumer cannot really differentiate between interlaced and progressive. The channels on tata sky HD look really great on 1080i. To see 1080p, connect a blue ray player or sony playstation3 to a full hd tv.

Depending on your TV, not much on a static image.. However on a motion sequence as in "i" frames are horizontally rendered in an alternate, interleaved manner, you may get only half of the resolution (540 lines).

Hence, if your TV does very good deinterlacing of motion sequence, the picture you would get will be very close to 1080p. So the quality you see from a 1080i source is more dependent on your TV as all the current HDTVs are basically progressive units and needs to do deinterlacing to convert 1080i to 1080p before displaying the image.
