My set up consists of Elac bookshelves and a DNM amplifier. I have been connecting the TV output via the amplifier to the speakers (as the other home theatre originally connected to the TV got busted). Is it bad to do so? Will my bookshelves be affected?

Regards.

Your should be concerned about Amp-Speaker matching only.
You can connect any sources to the Amp as per the available connectivity.

Are you using the line out or Headphones out. Line out is fine, HP out, Nope.

What TV Output are you using? This is all that matters, assuming the amp and speakers are matched well. Use RCA line outs from TV and not headphone jack.
Apart from this nothing else system wise matters.

It should work fine when connected to line out. Would be better if it has an optical out and you have a small decent external DAC.
