Is Ripping CDs in India legal?

sorry to bring this up all over again. flipkart just confirmed something on twitter. ripping/copying to mobile phones even if u own an original copy is indeed illegal in India.

cant imagine the consequences now! so basically if anyone in this country has any music on their mobiles/ipods, theyre committing piracy! shocking, just shocking. now why would i buy any audio CD from now on if i cant even rip the thing?

damn man, this is bad. like real bad. but basically now there's no point buying CDs, right? unless of course one is intent on breaking the law, which would kinda defeat the entire purpose of not going to piratebay and buying legal music.
