Is there any 5.1 surround system available under 5k?I need a really cheap 5.1 system for my 32'' hdtv.
Hi,
You can go for multimedia speakers. Here are few of them:
- Logitech Z506 - Rs. 4,900
- Creative Inspire T6160 - Rs. 5200
- Sony SA ID7000 - Rs. 5750
- Philips DSP45U - Rs. 6000
Are they compatible with LCD TV's?By the way,My room is very small. So I am looking for smaller ones.
All the speaker systems mentioned above don't have a doldy digital / DTS decoder and until or unless you watch on a DVD player with a decoder they will be useless for surround sound.
Sorry,I am totally new to this subject.I already have a set of 4 speakers.(They are not like the smaller ones which are used for PC.They are bigger ones which i used in my hall). But they are very old models. Can i just buy a woofer and use the old speakers and can i get 5.1 effect with that?

Hi
just having 5 speakers does not make a 5.1 or home theater, every speaker is fed with a different frequency of sound by the amp, for example the center speaker concentrates on vocals
front right and front left speaker concentrate on the mid and high frequency
the rear are often for high frequency
for the budget you have, i suggest you to go for altec 5.1
it has subwoofer and 5 speakers , comes with a remote too
sound quality is good
cheers

Believe me opting for a complete 5.1 system for 5K will be waste of money for your hall. Your only option will be DIY. Even then 5K will be less.
You already have 4 speakers. Even if you DIY a centre channel and surround decoder with chip amp it will go to 10K and you will still need a subwoofer.
Better stick with a good readymade 2.1 system or buy a cheap but good amplifier such as norge and later DIY a powered sub for 5K for good listening levels in a hall.
