Is this connection right?

Hello all,

One question on connecting tata sky hd stb with denon 1610

Samsung full hd tv
Denon 1610
Tata sky hd

Coax output of stb is given to denon, hdmi output of stb given to hdmi in of tv

Need: when amp is on, audio should come via home theatre speakers
When amp is off, audio should come using tv speakers

Is my connection right.?

I tried to switch on amp with auto select option, nor sound or video came

try hdmi from tata sky hd to ur avr hdmi in and hdmi out from ur avr into ur tv hdmi in...no more cables......
very good sound even at very low volume on some specific channels..lioke star movies hd,star gold hd........

oh u need avr on/off case...sorry my soln case is avr always on...but sound is very good

Tata sky hd box doesn't output 5.1 sound via hdmi, right?

yes it do and only tatasky do:yahoo::yahoo:................no other stb company does......enjoy star moveis hd actions with ur sw roaring all the time like theters even at very low volume.........enjoy
my onk 3400 avr detects DD in all the hd channels of tatasky stb.in fact avr of mine is a just a entry model.u have separates with 1610??
.u will get much beter sound by the connection.

Some forum members have confirmed that Tatasky hd supports 5.1 over HDMI. So you can connect hdmi out of stb to avr and then avr out to tv. But this requires that you should keep your avr on all time. So imo, your current connection is best where hdmi is connected to tv and spdif to avr.

yah as the avr on/off case needed follow baiju...
but he is not getting sound...somthing wromg is there in connection
may be tatasky hd dont simultaneously feed via spdif and hdmi..never tested that so cant confirm

Did you assign digital input to one of the av or hdmi in of Denon AVR? For example, assign coax to hdmi1. Then switch avr to hdmi1 and it will select coax for audio as there is no hdmi input is connected. Also check stb settings for audio through digital out.

should it be explicitly configured to take audio through digital out from STB ? let me check - I didn't get your first question - as I said earlier, I took coax output of STB and inserted the cable into coax(SAT/CABLE) connection in AVR.

In my denon 1612, I need to assign the coax input to one of the av or hdmi input like sat/cbl. There is no option to start coax input explicitly. Then when I start sat/cbl hdmi input, it will take audio from coax if audio is not available in hdmi or if hdmi cable is not connected.

Denon 1612 has "standby facility" with which you can put avr to standby and sound will start coming from TV speakers and if AVR is on sound will come thru home theatre speakers

(All connections via HDMI only)
STB to AVR via HDMI
AVR to TV via HDMI

I am not sure whether Denon 1610 has that facility. U can check
In 1612, HDMI setup and set HDMI audio output

For me, am able to get audio with the connection but video is not coming, theoretically all I want video via hdmi connected directly to tv and audio out of coax , checked stb settings , audio is set to out from spdif and not hdmi

Thanks for all inputs and guidance , it works now the way I wanted - I had to choose again the hdmi option to switch back to tv mode, automatically sound started coming from amp also , now it works perfectly

You can try hdmi from tata sky to avr hdmi in and hdmi out from ur avr into ur tv hdmi in. i think it will work.
