Naturelover, unless I spend huge moneys, it will be difficult for me to improve on my existing system. So am looking at a parallel shift where I will give up some and gain some musical attributes vis a vis the EMT 950.

What replaces the phono?

Am getting the EMT 930 with the EMT 139st tube phono amp.

The reason for the shift is because I have never heard an idler at my place and was keen to experience one. It’s not an upgrade as such. It’s more of a different sound signature. The experts say the 930 sounds best with the 139 tube phono. Hence bought it as a combo. The Thoress is a better phono than the 139 but I felt the synergy between the 930 and the 139 might be better.

All EMT 927 and 930 tables prior to 1967 used to come with the 139 tube phono amp. Post 1967, they moved to SS phono amp. While the inbuilt SS phono amps are very decent, the 139 is supposed to be better.

I'm curious why you might change the speakers.

No particular reason. Just want to experience a few other speakers at home.

Could be a vintage Tannoy GRF from the 60s. Or could be a RCA LC9 A again from the 60s. Or could even be an active like Geithain 901

I like to keep trying new stuff. It doesn’t mean I am unhappy with my current stuff

Your list of speakers is interesting, certainly off the beaten path except the Tannoy. Perhaps not for me though. Best of luck.

That is an understandable but (from my point of view) odd perspective. I can see wanting to try something yet I feel if something is satisfying we should leave it well enough alone. In any case I am sure you will have fun and that's what matters.
